For me spirituality is a sense of wonder, a sense of transcendence. For me, I can contemplate nature or the universe and get that sense. Or I can listen to a beautiful piece of music and get that sense.

No, sorry, that isn't what the "really" meant. History definitely was a big part of my awakening. You learn culture along with history and religion is part of culture. Probably the biggest eye-opener was reading about Zoroasterism. Christianity is IMHO rehashed Zoroastrianism. That certainly isn't an original theory but it was an opinion I reached on my own through reading history. You got there through science which may be a quicker path but no more surprising than history. There are quite a few religious scientists. I don't get the logic of that but then... there is no logic in religion

It's very important for atheists to be able to network because often we feel that we are alone and we should realise that we are not.

I am closing this thread. The original question was answered by Doc John.
Quote:
We ask that members avoid discussing religious topics, because people hold pretty strong opinions on those topics.

Just as we have no forums on religion -- we're a mental health community first and foremost -- we don't think it would be appropriate to have a forum against all religions.

However, you're welcomed to start your own social group for such discussion and encourage your fellow members who are interested in the topic to join.
Thanks for this!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
