Was wondering if there is a place for adults with attachment disorders on this site, looked and couldn't find any. It's a huge issue for so many. Could you please consider opening up a category for this? All the other things I have are symptoms of just this. Thank you for you consideration.

Hello StarBlue
Do you mean something like Reactive Attachment Disorder? There is a forum for this on Psychforums but it's not very active... Otherwise I can only think of the Personality Disorder section of PC.

I would love to see a section like that, too. So strange that adult attachment issues are pretty much invisible.

It is not a personality disorder per se though can develop into one. It's totally developmental trauma - prenatal to 3 the basis on which all subsequent relationships are then built. 99% of all psychological issues stem from disconnects and traumas during these years, those with attachment disorders suffer from this in the worst way since they never were able to internalize love at this vital stages which sets them up for every pit-fall that comes their way -from self-image to self-sabotage, to addiction to living a life devoid of human contact on one end of the spectrum to sociopathic tendencies that manifest as seeking out negative connections with the world.

And so, again am asking if you can open a new category for this please - it's well-deserved and probably way overdue as well. BTW - not all attachment disorders are Reactive.

it annoys me so much that people seem to only focus on children with these issues, so that adults who deal with it don't get any support.

children grow into adults and sadly it won't always be resolved in childhood....i mean it's as if there is a cut off age for understanding. tons of resources for adoptive parents of "difficult" kids but none for adults who are alone in the world and have to suffer because they aren't cute enough for anyone to care.

sorry. rant over.

Yes, that's the thing right there - the millions who grow up from early childhood development trauma - where do we go from there and how.

Hopefully we can put our minds and hearts together on the forum and pool what we know to glean some understanding.

Hey Star
I'm sorry if you felt questioned or derogated through my post. I didn't want to imply that it's the same than a PD. I only know about RAD and something I recall being named attachment disorder without inhibition or so but that's just my psychology smattering. I'll read the link you put in this thread. It's an intersting topic for sure.

No that's cool. Not many people do know about it or its genesis - no worries.

Not at all - I feel the same frustration. I have searched and searched the Internet on this, to no avail. I think the new forum (!!) will be helpful to many people! Maybe we don't have to live like this forever after all.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
