I have a 17-inch Toshiba laptop that I mostly keep plugged in. In the past two weeks, I am having trouble with the power.

1. The battery is two years old.

2. The battery seems to be discharging, even when the power cord is plugged in. However, the discharge may be because the power plug jiggles lose.

3. The power cord is having trouble staying in the "on" and "recharge" positions. I have to keep jiggling the plug, and of course it jiggles into non-working positions as I type, so sometimes I'm not aware that the electrical connection isn't working, or the recharge isn't working.

QUESTION: SHOULD I BUY A NEW POWER CORD OR A NEW BATTERY OR BOTH? I am looking for the least expensive option.

It sounds to me more like the cord itself...I mean, if it makes it hard to recharge the battery because it keeps basically unplugging itself as you type...

my brother in law bought a lap top, but he started having problems with the place where you plug the power cord in this piace kept comming loose he had it fixed a couple of times but after a while they said it became beyond repair, so before you buy anything get it checked out by someone who knows what they are doing because if you buy a new battery or lead and its not that reason you will be wasting money, hope you get this problem sorted

Good tips. As I've thought about it, I started thinking more and more it might be the cord, because the plug-in tip is a bit bent. Grin -- I cannot guarantee that I haven't stepped on it at some point, as the cord usually lies around the bottom of my recliner.
