I'm truly not sure what you're asking here. Do you think we have some sort of ability to screen people in or out based upon their profession or something?

It's a moot question regardless, since the forums are open to the public to read. But no, we don't have any rules about people who CAN'T be members here (outside of those who would be in violation of our terms of use).

what john said

anyone can join here

the plus side is that they don't just let the first few posts through- they moderate them, but then i suppose you still don't know who the people are, FBI agents?. I never thought about it, but again it could be absolutely anyone

the only thing i would be curious about is if they actually let therapists join. I mean this site is a support site, it's not a professional therapy outlet so I don't know

bet you their are, somewhere in the world, some therapists reading as guests

Doesn't matter who joins. The aliens could join and they can't use our information for research purposes nor do they have access to our personal data if they join jk but trying to illustrate a point.

i'll bet there are a lot of FBI and other law-enforcement employees with mental health issues, and by the law of averages, there must be more than a few with psychiatric or personality disorders. i hope they find help.

I bet they'd be boring? I'm lucky that I'm outside of their jurisdiction. People who overworks don't grow as a person, they got nothing on me, I work hard! If they wanna hear that,,,I still don't say that often.

As I understand it, you FEEL safe, one thing for sure, wherever and whenever my mind takes me to God knows what, I wish I be as strong as I could be, ducking and dodging the danger, when I think of me as one against many, I'd think about odds.

You're smart and capable, please put trust in tiny glimmer of hope somewhere in your head.

considering the fact that mental illness doesnt just attack those who do not have a career\profession and this is a mental health website, anyone whether they are singers, actors, doctors, therapists, CIA,FBI, police, white black green orange can join.

also considering the fact that this website is searchable on google (hey how did we all find the site, by doing a google search on any mental illness we had or were interested in learning about right) all a person with the FBI, CIA homeland security and what have you needs to do is type in a search bar any number of mental illnesses even if they are investigating one of their co workers or case load will find psych central.

that said I have noticed that I usually do not worry about this kind of thing online .....unless.... my medications for paranioa and other psychosis related symptoms with my bipolar disorder is not working right. when I get these paranoid thoughts i check to make sure I didnt miss a dose of my meds and I call my treatment providers. once my meds problems are fixed I dont have this problem any more.

suggestion to original poster ...if this continues to bother you maybe check in with your treatment providers or take a break from the internet since there is no sure way of knowing who is and isnt an FBI person on the internet.
Thanks for this!

the other thing is, their has to be a minimumn age

surely you're not going to get an 8/9 year old joining the site

my opinion is that if you cant verify who a person really is, what their profession is then there most likely is no way to verify whether someone is 8 or 80.

also my opinion is that mental illness does not strike only those over a certain age so it would be called discrimination to have psych central put an age limit when it is a mental health website that addresses all forms of mental illness in all persons regardless of age, race, religion, cultures and locations (basic discrimination laws here in the USA and last I knew this mental health website is located in the USA)

also there is a mental disorder where adults have alternate personalities of all ages, putting an age limit for say 8 or 9 would make it so that someone who has an alter aged 5 would not be able to post here if they happen to get triggered and dissociate\ switch into being that 5 yr old alter while reading on psych central. in fact there are some boards that young alters and people can post and participate in here at psych central.

I just went back and read the rules of the site and there is no age limit listed.
Thanks for this!
