I do not have a solution to this, and I cannot remember what the guidelines say about this, but I have noticed an alarming number of posts with people saying that if their situation doesn't change by X date that they will

I have noticed this mostly in the Relationships and Communication forum. Maybe a sticky note could be created as a reminder? Thanks, seesaw

I also go to the bottom of the main community page and notice which moderator is online at the moment (usually in a different color than the rest of the members names) I send that moderator a private message stating I sent in a report and why and that I also wanted to make sure an online moderator was aware of the against the rules posting is going on and where to find it. usually when I do this the post that is obviously against the no suicide discussion rule the post gets locked for administrative review or it is very quickly removed so it doesnt trigger others. I know there are some people who do not report posts like this but I do the moderators cant be everywhere at once and in some cases they may not know whats going on unless there is a report made. |

I have been reporting the posts that I see that do this. But I haven't been PMING the online administrator directly about it. Maybe I will try that too.
Thanks, Seesaw

We do not ban discussions of suicide on our site, since, after all, we are a mental health support site. It would be pretty rare for someone who's gone through clinical depression to not have experienced such thoughts at least once...
We do have a policy about discussion of suicide and topics in this area: https://forums.psychcentral.com/depr...resources.html We just ask that people properly trigger their posts as such, and refrain from posting about any detailed plans, methods, or such. I'd encourage members not to focus on the specific issue ("Are they talking about suicide?!") so much as what they're actually trying to communicate -- reaching out for help and for someone to just listen to them and hear them... Best, DocJohn

I report the ones that are in active suicide mode of posting sentences like "I am going to...... then a description of what they are going to do and when." |

I felt like the only kind of advice I wanted to give at that moment had nothing to do with the problems making them feel that way, but with the fact they were stating they seemed in immediate danger and needed to see professional help. Thank you for your clarification on this topic, DocJohn. I appreciate it. And my intent is not to not give support to those feeling those feelings, but I think, as you have stated, there are specific forums for dealing with that and a limit as to what we can reasonably provide support for. seesaw
