I think this has been mentioned somewhere else, but I don't know where at the moment.
This morning there seems to be quite a slowdown here. Not only does the survey seem to want to come up, but when I make a post it takes a LONG time for the system to take me back to the forum. At the bottom of my browser at one time I saw something seeming to relate to Google and some kind of analysis taking place. Also some data coming from or to voicefive.com. I think if something like this is happening there should be an announcement about it, but I do not see that. It could be that I am just missing it. On the other hand, maybe there has been no such announcement.

I'm not sure whats causing the slow down. I've seen it happen over the years as more and more new members find us.
When the system is taking forever to take you back after you post, click the "return to forum" link. It'll take you right back and your post will be posted.

There was nothing out of the ordinary going on this morning with our systems. All systems are online and operational as normal.

It seems like just about everyone is having the same issue. I wonder what on earth it is?

No slowdown today. So something is/was different.

Slow stuff again this morning -- twice lasting more than a minute. It just says "waiting for forums.psychcentral.com" or something like that.
Added later: I've never seen it this bad before, and I've been coming since July. I'm signing out.

As I've said before in previous threads about these occasional slowdowns in the early morning hours, we run our daily backup every morning. It's a necessary maintenance task and with over 1 GB of data to backup everyday, it does take some load.
Having said that, we are considering whether a more powerful server would help with this task.

I wonder is it possible to have some sort of notice on the main forum page when the system is doing maintenance .. that would at least allow people to differentiate between problems then and problems outside of that.
just an idea? |

One task runs at 12:30am ET, another at 5:00am ET, and the main backup runs at 2:15am ET everyday. The main backup takes the longest to run, usually about an hour.

Starting in 2007, daylight time begins in the United States on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. On the second Sunday in March, clocks are set ahead one hour at 2:00 a.m. local standard time, which becomes 3:00 a.m. local daylight time. On the first Sunday in November, clocks are set back one hour at 2:00 a.m. local daylight time, which becomes 1:00 a.m. local standard time. These dates were established by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, Pub. L. no. 109-58, 119 Stat 594 (2005).
Not all places in the U.S. observe daylight time. In particular, Hawaii and most of Arizona do not use it. Indiana adopted its use beginning in 2006. In 2006, daylight time begins on April 2 and ends on October 29. In 2007, daylight time begins on March 11 and ends on November 4. [New law goes into effect.] In 2008, daylight time begins on March 9 and ends on November 2. Many other countries observe some form of "summer time", but they do not necessarily change their clocks on the same dates as the U.S. Daylight time and time zones in the U.S. are defined in the U.S. Code, Title 15, Chapter 6, Subchapter IX - Standard Time. [b]BTW You may need to update your computer's date and time since this is a new program time. (USA & CANADA)

Ok... November 4th...the time changes. 2 am becomes 1 am to us. 10 pm is 9 pm etc. Our USA computers might be adjusting themselves according to the old system and not in tune with Nov 4th. (It will also be a different day next year
![]() I don't think it matters (time change) if the processes here are set for 12:30 am, 5:00 am and 2:15 am no matter what, you would just need to remember that EST is 5 hours behind UTC. EST begins November 4th this year (at 2 am our time which then becomes 1 am ) ![]()

No, we have about 1 GB of data to backup everyday; the hard drives are much larger than that!
![]() Our community system is a distributed platform, meaning we have multiple servers that do multiple but different tasks to present you the page you're seeing. This means we can handle heavy traffic without as much difficulty, but it does mean it's a little harder to troubleshoot things when we're seeing a slowdown on the page. We had a blurp this morning while trying to fix some code which caused a slowdown for about 10 minutes. We try not to make things worse, but sometimes we inadvertently do! ![]()
