I purpose the creation of a new Psych Central chat forum, held nightly, to discuss the problems associated with chat addiction.

I volunteer to host this forum on a daily basis, during all hours.

On a serious note...

Does anyone here feel they spend an unhealthy amount of time in Psych Central's chatrooms? What about the forums?

It's time I ween myself off of this place. This is a bit excessive for me. I don't mean to critize this place. I find Psych Central a good source of information, suggestions, etc.

I find I spend too much time on ANY kind of message forum. I always limit myself to one forum because I know I spend more time in them than I should. It's too easy for me to be doing something I WANT to do rather than doing something I SHOULD do, like working or taking care of chores.

LOL fgm.. good discussion topic! I find that I go in waves of participation... sometimes it's needing often it's support... sometimes in chat... more often not... sometimes in chat I can help... other times I can't form a thought and just try to join in. Most of all, it's a feeling of belonging. (TOO often it feels like "family." ROFL) TC New Psych Central chat forum

I can't escape this place its like this quote I've read about...
</font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
"Once your heart finds that place where it belongs, it will never want to leave!"

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">
Even my parents don't stop me, though my dad is aware that I could be talking to someone older on forums.
But it's shocking how much I go on this website everyday.
Been thinking of taking a break where I pull the plug out of the computer socket. Even have problems sleeping when I'm up talking in chat. Woah this place is the BEST!

i've cut back and will cut back more. it does, at times, feel like family. i think Shirley and i were separated at birth. but, there's so much more to life, than a computer and a tired butt.

Hi folks,

Good thread topic.

OK, it can be a bit addictive, but IMHO that's because it's good.

In 3d I have the unfortunate habit of getting too psychologically deep with new acquaintances and then they kind of attach onto me, like I'm a saviour of some kind. Relationships get intense, and I know it's because I encourage the deep conversations. Then there is all the guilt of detaching, or at least gently cooling down again. It's a pattern.

It's not like that here. We can get as heavy as we like and others here can take it or leave it. It's a brilliant dynamic, and I think it's because we are a meeting of minds without living next door to each other.

I think we come here because we like it. Right now, my partner is in the other room watching TV and she's not having to listen to my problems. That's got to be a plus.

It's good for everybody that we can come here and it's a d*** sight cheaper than therapy! Long live PC.

Cheers, M
