All of a sudden I can't get into the chatroom. I have the current version of Java and am using XP.

On previous occasions I was able to log into the room, but for the last couple of weeks, it doesn't work. The page that states that I will be entering the room in a minute stays there.

Cookies and caches are clean.

Thanks.

Have you installed any Windows Updates in that time, especially something like Service Pack 2??

Yes I did install the SP2. If that has caused this problem, can it be fixed DocJohn?

I hope so.....I feel alienated.......lol. Thank you.

Yes, SP2 is well-known to cause all sorts of issues with programs that rely on Internet connections to work (IM can also be affected).

I'm not completely sure since I don't have SP2 on any computers, but I understand a new feature it has is an integrated pop-up blocker with the Web browser, Microsoft's Internet Explorer. I believe there's an option in the browser's toolbar that now allows you to click on it if you want to allow pop-ups for a specific site. You have to do that for this site, because the chat software opens up in a new window (which the browser thinks is a pop-up ad).

Try that and let me know if that works....

I had that too Planning... even thought psychcentral is on the "allow" list... I think the chat has a different address... but I got around it by clicking my blocker off for the chat room... and I get in.

I can't offer you any more suggestions.... just make sure psychcentral.com is in your allow lists. That's the only domain we use here. And not just "forums.psychcentral.com" but also "psychcentral.com"

Have you tried holding the CTRL key while clicking the Chat link? You might have to hold it until the Chat window actually opens, but that works for me.

I tried that too, LMo. Nothing seems to be working and I don't understand it.

Kind of ticks me off. Used to work and now doesn't.

Thanks for trying. {{{{{{LMo}}}}}}}}}

One last thing to try, perhaps, is to download a new Web browser such as FireFox:

FireFox Web Browser (4.5 MB)

You may also have to reinstall Java:

Get Java (click on the "Get it now" button)

DocJohn, the Java dl didn't work, but installing Firefox did..........so, thank you very much.

I still wonder why IE is having problems though.
