Have you ever had a dream to trigger you and you wake up not knowing why you are in that trigger fog?

Wow, no one else has had a dream and woke up feeling triggered by it? I guess I'm a special case then and this dream I had was not an actual event in my life, I don't think. Speaking of that...have you ever had a dream that you really feel that you have experienced at some point in your life but you just can't put the facts with it to support that it happened?

When certain people are in my dreams I get triggered. It's disconcerting to wake up and have to remember where I am now.

Thanks for responding. How long does it take for you settle down? I think it takes me longer with a dream than RL. Because I'm trying to digest what the dream means also, and to remember as much as I can. My dream was not about people but an action.

I have dreams that play upon my past, and dreams of my worst fears coming true related to those situations. For a period of time after waking from it I am unsure where I am, or what year it is, how old I am, and will stay away from the edges of the bed and turn on a light as no terrible thing is impossible until I regain my senses. When I realize I am safe, the pain of the dreams experience overwhelms me like it was real, and several hours to several days are effected by the experience.

It usually takes an hour or more. I have to really focus on the current reality versus my dream, plus get the disturbing thoughts out of my head.

I agree. So frustrating when that happens and takes time out of our lives. Makes me glad I live alone though. So no one else can see how dazed I am

I'm not sure if I've had triggering dreams that were unrelated to my past... I've had nightmares that left me feeling off much of the following day, and I've had dreams of the past that would leave me feeling drained and triggered.
Both of those effects generally last well into the following day, if not several days (in the case of memoirs or flashbacks in dreams).
It's frustrating and debilitating. I often can't focus on anything else.

Yes, that's how I felt and it just had to be my first day of the new DBT class, Mindfulness I don't remember much of the class, except they did a guided meditation and when I closed my eyes I went back into that dream. So it wasn't relaxing at all for me. As soon as I left there I came home and took a nap. Got up to go to PT. Wasted day thanks to a dream.

Pretty amazing that it takes that much of a hold on our mental health. How would you fight something that happens in your sleep? Maybe some grounding exercises before sleep?
