The put-together-me would say go ahead and just do it, you only live once.

But we are more careful than that! I've been bitten on the *** too many times.

I wish I could tell people that they won't get hurt if they trust someone, but the truth is when you start to trust someone you are opening yourself up to the possibility of hurt. Now we could shut down completely, not trust in any shape or form and end up with nothing. If we do open up to anyone new, then the worry is, if this will then be used against us!

Ummm... here's to hoping we don't get hurt yet again!

Yes, I find trust hard for those reasons. I'm trying to learn to trust within boundaries, trust some people with some things, but no-one with everything.

But we will get hurt again. It's something that we can't escape. Hurt can be from many things. Loss of a loved one, a pet, betrayal and/or abuse by people we thought we could trust and depend on, religion, politics, weather, they are all factors that can emotionally hurt us. I think PTSD/CPTSD heightens that feeling of trust/expectations are a bad thing and to avoid to protect. Maybe finding that healthy balance is the key here.

It takes a long time for me to let my guard down towards 'trusting' people. Hell, I think a part of me never truly does. I know right now I feel especially let down and betrayed (but you already know my sob story from the depression forum).

So, cheers to that.
