I talked to my therapist about some of my symptoms. The inability to track time, and while I don’t have dissociative disorder, I dissociate in response to stressful things, and....I don’t know what you call this.
I don’t see anything but what is right in front of me. I have no vision problems. The therapist says this isn’t surprising, it’s a fear response. She suggested hypnotherapy. I don’t know. Have any of you tried hypnotherapy? I’m pretty sure I can’t be hypnotized, but I might be willing to listen to a recording is all. I don’t want to be in a room with someone and be expected to relax, that sounds completely implausible. Last edited by Anonymous45390; Dec 12, 2017 at 01:12 AM. |

Hypnosis completely scares me.
I don’t want to be negative in any way. It just really is not something I would find comfort in. Ya know though, if you experience dissociation then I would think that that’s a form of self hypnosis. In a way maybe? For me to be in charge of my experience is one thing but for someone else to be the one in charge is disturbing to me. That’s just me. My counselor actually talked me to a safe place, last year I think, and I could feel that I was there. Was that hypnosis? I don’t know. I think that I am very suggestive and that would make sense to me, from what I’ve shared. It could have been a form of hypnosis that was half way self induced. I’m rambling. Forgive me. I share your thoughts on it.

Thank you for your reply. I just wonder if my t gets it when she makes this sort of suggestion. Sigh.

I suggest asking your t what hypnotherapy involves and whether or not you would still be consciously aware of and in control of your thought process. I don't think hypnosis is like they show on TV: people clucking like a chicken and totally unaware of what they are doing. I think it is an exaggeration. So the best bet is to ask your t to tell you more about what hypnotherapy would be like and what it involves.
