After fighting the system here in the UK for two and a half years to get my home adapted to my needs as a wheelchair user, i have finally been advised that Adult services are going to support an application for the grant needed to carry out the extensive works needed. Great, i hear you all saying, only i do not feel great about it,i feel nothing, i have dreamed of this news for years, but now it has come i feel numb, shell shocked, but i do not feel happy as i thought i would. I don't know why i cant feel excited about this, probably because i have been let down so many times that i do not trust anything till it actually is finished.

your feelings are probably understandable after this long battle. Sometimes when you have been fighting so long and suddenly it ends, it can take awhile to adjust.
Thanks for this!

I think you "hit the nail on the head." You've been disappointed so many times, that why get excited THIS time.

Plus you've had to fight so hard to get something that you should have had years ago -- you're probably exhausted even thinking about it, let alone get excited about it. I would imagine that once things really get started, you'll begin to feel good about it. But I wouldn't worry about feeling 'numb' right now -- I think everyone would, after what you've been thru.

Best of luck and I hope they get started on the changes SOON. God bless. Hugs, Lee
Thanks for this!

I was listening to a show on Cuba/Castro and there was one old guy who has been part of fighting Castro for almost the whole 50 years and he realized that when Castro dies, it will be a whole different situation for him, what he's been working on for 50 years will have gone away and he'll have to re-orient his life.

Maybe the struggle to get the grant was what you were enjoying and now that you will get the fix, you have "succeeded" and have to move on to something else? You won't have anything to "complain" about when you get what you want, will have to create a new focus.

It can be scary; maybe you will expect more of yourself now that you will be more able and are worried you won't be able to deliver?

I would feel skeptical too. I don't always trust people either who have let me down a bunch of times. Plus, even if they are finally giving you what you need, the fact is you had to push them so hard to get it. I would still be mad.
