I have a bad habit of repressing sadness. I will let myself feel sad, but I try very hard to hold the emotions inside. Not letting others see how I feel is my goal. When I do cry, I instantly become ashamed & very angry with myself.

I find myself expressionless 90% of the time. Anger comes up most often, followed by some smiles in a far 2nd place, and tears always come in last place. Curious if this tendency goes along with BPD, depression, my brain injury, or something else. Any thoughts or experiences to help??

Shezbut,

Don't repress your feelings!!! Crying is a really good thing because it releases cortisol and endorphines... this will relieve your stress and make you feel better. I understand not wanting to cry in front of other people, that's no fun. Crying in front of people that you care about will make you feel closer to them and relieved; cry if you need to. And yes, this may be caused by any of the above. I hope you feel better soon!

My repression is so automatic, I often don't notice feeling the way that I (probably) should.

It's just blank ~ most of the time. The times that I do feel emotions are times that I'm emotionally overwhelmed. I don't know...it feels weird. Tough to describe.

I understand how difficult it is to make yourself vulnerable to your emotions. I am very much like you in that manner. I know the emotion is there, but I do not wish to let it roam free. This isn't the most healthy thing in the world, so I've learned to let my emotions out through music and art. Maybe you could try doing something creative to express your emotions, then you can take a step back, recognize what you are feeling, and let yourself feel them.
