This has been a difficult year emotionally. My beloved horse died and I am lost without him. Wild dogs killed at least one of my cats. I took one of the barn cats to the humane shelter where he will be safer. Still have one cat missing.

My cat, Marla, had five kittens about a week ago. Four have died. I hope the last little one makes it. Marla won't be having any more kittens.

Then there is the electrical problem that you may recall I wrote about. It has been nearly two months since my bedroom filled with smoke and I still do not have enough clutter picked up for access to the electrical outlets, nor do I have money. Will probably try for a loan on my house; I own the house but my credit isn't good so I dunno about that.

And then there are sick family members. One aunt and one uncle are very sick and we don't know how long they live. Cousins with cancer. Worst is that my exH is critically ill. A week after open heart surgery he began complaining of difficulty breathing and pain in his chest that was worse when he laid down. He went more than five days getting progressively worse before they got a CXR. Then they found he had a cardiac effusion/tamponade and had to go to surgery emergently. They had not been checking his lab work but after the emergency surgery they sent labwork that showed that his impaired heart circulation had affected his kidneys and his liver. Time will tell whether those organs recover or not.

I know what I want to happen as a nurse but I am powerless. When I worked in critical care I could make suggestions to doctors but now I am not the nurse, I am not even 'family', I am the EXwife.

His mother is beginning to realize that they (RN/MD) neglected to investigate the cause of difficulty breathing in a timely fashion. I hope my ex can recover from all his problems.

Hope this post is okay. I am frazzled.

I'm really sorry things are piling up on you like this. I know you are very concerned about the family illnesses but please put that electrical problem at the top of the priority list. It's probably just a shorted outlet which is a very easy fix but the fire hazard is serious.
It's good to see you back and good luck to the kitty
Take care.

We have not had electrical power in my son's bedroom and the bathroom for several years. I read that most wiring done before 1970 is aluminum and would be a big fix. I don't know where to put all my "stuff" so that I can get an electrician in here. I have boxes of stuff and trashbags full of clothing and my garage is full. A neighbor offered to help me pick up clutter and I don't know why. She hasn't asked for money. Makes me wonder if she is looking for drugs/other stuff to steal. When I asked her what she wanted she said, just let me use your tiller. Or maybe she really is just a nice person.

I did buy six smoke detectors and put them in rooms. I am trying to not use lights in my house unless I am in the room and I do not use electrical outlets in the five rooms that are on one breaker. (So I can't use my CPAP which makes me more tired). Our living room is on the back of the house where there was a patio at one time and I hope the wiring is okay in that room so we have extension cords from that room to my son's room for computer.

I spent $8 and joined Angie's List and the electrician that my pdoc uses has good ratings (but the pdoc said he was kind of pricey). Worth it if he is competent I suppose.

I don't know where to start. If I could get the garage cleaned out I could put boxes there but my garage door doesn't work and the service guy said I have to clean the clutter (wet moldy clothes) from half the garage floor so he can fix the garage door. I haven't picked up clutter in weeks. I am emotionally overloaded. And a procrastinator.

Oh Yoda, first I want to say how good it is to see you back on here!! You were really missed & your post was perfectly fine, no worries at all.

I am so sorry for all the animals you have lost, it is heart breaking.
Your families illnesses & home needing repair can seem insurmountable. Can see why you are frazzled. Things have to start getting better, right. As George said tho, if you know of anyone who could fix the outlet, try & work on that soon. We want you safe!

Other than that Yoda, I don't have any great words of wisdom. Just know you are heard, believed & cared about.
Again, so sorry you've had such a trying year.

Hey Yoda...I'm no electrician but I don't believe that your house would need to be completely rewired with copper. A good electrician or competent trusted handyman (if there are no permits required) can attach copper pigtails between the aluminum wiring and all outlets, light switches etc. Relatively expensive but not nearly as expensive as a total rewiring of your house.
Your neighbor might just be a good neighbor. And if she needs to borrow your tiller it's a bargain for both of you. If you don't trust her you could put all drugs and valuables in a safe place where she won't have access.
If I had a neighbor with a tiller I might offer that kind of deal myself

So sorry to hear about your troubles Yoda but so glad to hear from you! Glad you are all right even with all you have going on it can be overwhelming. Do you possibly need a bigger breaker for all that is on the one? Has the breaker tripped? I am not a electrician either but lived with one for 13 years. Also had an old house with old wiring so I have a few ideas. My friend also lost a horse this year that can be so hard they are after all part of the family. I am with George might as well take your neighbor up on the offer, She may just mean well. Hope you do stay safe and pm me anytime.
