This girl I work with is driving me crazy.

Back story

I have a fairly easy low stress job. There are 3 people in our company in the state I live in (there are more in different states). I work about 2.5 hours away from my boss and counterpart. It really is perfect. When I started a year and a half ago my counterpart trained me. Since I have started the company we have our contract with has changed the way they do everything. We've both had the same training, yet she refuses to change. She will call and ask me how to print something, or where our boss is (who sits next to her).

So yesterday my counterpart (Christy) set up a teleconference with myself and another lady that works with our company, but not for our company (very convoluted company workings, lol). The other lady (Ann) doesn't answer the email right away and Christy gets all worried but won't call Ann. So I say well I'll call her. I get Ann on the phone and she says she'll be able to meet with us at 9:30am. And all is good.

This morning I get to work and Christy is like what time is our meeting. UGGGGG!! She set up the meeting. She sent out the emails. But she refuses to use the tools that our contract provide her with. A wonderful Googel Calender that she can set up appointments and send invites from so we all know what time what is going on. The company that our contract is with use the calender all the time and that's why I know where everyone is and what's going on. But she refuses to use them, telling me she'll just keep notes. But her notes are never point on. And for some reason she is determined that she is going to have our boss fired for no reason.

I finally had enough of it and called our boss and told her what was up.

I feel a bit better, but the fact that this girl has been with the contract/company for 7 years scares the heck outta me. She is extremely incompetent. I love my job and my boss and owner, but this girl is going to be the end of me I'm sure of it.

It's so hard for me to do my job when she's constantly calling me asking me for help on things that she should know how to do.

I'm sorry this is so long. I just needed to vent.

Thanks for listening/reading.

Sorry you're exasperated and you did the right thing, expressing your concerns with your boss. Hopefully the boss will speak with her. If she continues - be short and sweet saying something like: I've offered you the efficient avenues to perform your duties, therefore don't continually rely on me". I hope things get better soon.

Lynn,

Thanks so much. I've never thought about just saying that. It's so easy and sweet, but to the point. I've even gone so far as to type up how to do just about everything so she will stop relying on me. I love what you've suggested.

Thanks again!!

I feel your pain! I have a coworker who sounds just like yours. She's useless and always needs help with something.

I missed work yesterday because I was feeling very sick, so I'm trying to get caught up on everything and one coworker is being super annoying and unhelpful and my boss is piling even more on me than usual.

I think about quitting this job every single day. I hope I can hold out until the day ends without going crazy. I've thought about giving my notice already. Ugh.

And Remember that after you've told her what Lynn suggested and she continues to bother you, just say "I'm sorry but i don't have time to look that up for you." and leave it at that. MAKE her do it. Those kind of people are flat-out toxic for you, and by being so agitated, it can actually affect your work!

And you can just plain ignore her too. Maybe she'll get the message, huh? LOL

Best of luck and God bless. Hugs, Lee
