Right now I'm feeling quite empty but I'm very afraid to feel happy because I'm scared of feeling sad again after that. I don't want to lie to myself. Also I feel guilty being happy, like I don't deserve it.

When I'm down I always deny ever being happy, and vice versa although the happiness tends to last longer. I can never feel neutral though.

Anyone feel this way too?

I feel the exact same way. I am sometimes afraid to be happy because I'm scared of all the pain and suffering to come back. It seems that when I become really happy, something bad comes and ruins it. Everyone deserves happiness. I believe that each and everyone of us does. Keep your head up and keep smiling!
Thanks for this!

We had a saying in elementary school... something along the lines of "laughing too hard today will cause crying tomorrow"...

So what? You can still be happy and laugh today.

What do you mean when you say that you do not want to lie to yourself? Lie in what ways?

Feeling guilty about being happy is a problem in your head and you are capable of treating it.

When I'm sad I feel like my happiness was a dream...a lie. Sometimes when I'm happy I feel like a different person than I really am. My mood changes without warning sometimes.

Thanks for the encouragement

Journal, blog, post, whatever - do some writing.

That will create a record of your happiness.

Then, you can go back to the written record and say "YES, I was happy. It was not a dream."

Written records are priceless.

Emotions are always changing whatever the reason. Enjoy the pleasant ones as much as you can. Think of emotions like seasons. Seasons change and so do emotions. Without the rain we wouldn't enjoy the sun.

The Modern Society we have, imprints negative feelings on us. It is OK to feel differently.
