I am waiting to hear back from 3 different social work graduate programs and to find out if I'll be accepted into any of them. I am currently already in another graduate program: rehabilitation counseling. I'm not pleased with the opportunities with my current program so I applied to the social work program. I am feel extremely anxious to find out about my path in with education. I am so unhappy with rehab that if I'm stuck in that school I just dont know how I'll manage my stress, anxiety and helplessness. I am feeling so desperate to get out of my situation.

Bless your heart. I'm sorry you're so anxious. But Jennifer, making yourself so stressed and anxious is NOT going to help you get accepted into any of the others.

I too used to get SO upset when I was waiting for something. I would almost make myself physically ill! Then I learned that "What good did that do?" I might as well just "chill" and lay back and relax. I may as well just go about my life and try to enjoy myself, because nothing is going to be any different if I do.

Things are going to turn out just as they are supposed to, regardless of what I do. "Nothing happens by accident in God's world."

Try not to stress out Jennifer. Whatever happens MIGHT just be what is the best for you. Perhap it will be what will take you into the area you want to go into --- with just a detour. Best of luck Jennifer. God bless. Hugs, Lee

(((Jenn1fer)))

Try to take a deep breath, relax for a moment, then slowly let the air out. Repeat..... One more time.....

Social work and psychology majors are rather similar, as I'm sure you know already. I recall hearing that it's much easier to get into social work programs than into psychology ~ but that was 10 years ago. Maybe that's changed since my time spent in college?? Have you looked into the differences between the undergraduate degrees? Would it be necessary for you to take courses that you haven't taken?

Social Workers : Occupational Outlook Handbook : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

A pretty interesting reference to look into above ~ as it also discusses related fields to Social Work.

I hope that you hear back from the universities that you applied to very soon. We're only in April though, a little ways off from hearing about the Fall semester (which is when I assume that you'd be starting your new major), right? Try to be patient by focusing on the present. What can you do now to make your experience more manageable?

Did you apply sideways to the school of social work at your present school? That would probably almost automatically take you if your grades thus far are okay; they know you are a "sure" thing, no thought required If you are trying for other schools, they might think similarly, if they don't I'd go sideways and take a few of the classes and then try to "upgrade" to a better school if I thought that was needed. What school one goes to seems really important when you are going to school but after you get out and start actually practicing, the import of the school becomes much less. If, in practice, you are a really good social worker, it won't matter what school you went to, as long as it's a respected degree-granting institution.
