Hi!

I wanted to hear some of your thoughts on dealing with nerves.
Right now I'm in an unfamiliar environment for an internship, and I don't know anyone in this city, I start later this week. I'm starting to get extremely nervous! I guess I tend to be a crier, and I'm having a hard time controlling the tears. It's hard to stop crying, and I'm worried that I'm going to start sobbing in public or at inappropriate times. I think talking to my family might make it worse. Does anyone have any advice?

I think using some REBT techniques may be helpful - exploring what your thoughts are just before getting upset can help. Journaling helps a lot of people. Plus you are reaching out here - that's a good start!

To be perfectly honest, I don't know what REBT techniques are.

But I would always ask myself "What's the WORST that could happen?" And then I'd try to think it through. Usually the worst that could happen was pretty insignificant in that circumstance. So that would calm me down where I didn't NEED to cry or be so nervous anymore. It helped me ALOT to get through what I was facing.

MAYBE it will help you too. Just a thought.

Take care and God bless! Hugs, Lee

If you google REBT or Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy you will get some self help links to do it yourself. It's really easy but helpful.

Anxiety can be terribly debilitating as I know to well. There's always the word IF or AND or BUT. As leed has said what is the worst that can happen, if you can visualise this, I think you will be able to deal with whatever life throws at you. Best Wishes to you. Good luck with your internship.
