I took the day off work because I have a ton of stuff that needs be done. It sounded like a good idea at the time. It wasn't.
As much as I don't enjoy my job, it keeps my mind engaged. I need that. I sit here at home with a "to do" list, but I am completely drained of energy and am having an incredibly difficult time getting it done. It's much easier to sit here and wallow in my own self-pity, to obsess with everything that isn't right about my life right now, to waste time on the web and listen to sad songs that speak to my soul in my current state. At work I manage to push past this listlessness, I guess because I feel I have no choice, but at home, even though I still feel like i have no choice, my body feels like 1,000 lbs as I try to move it off this chair. I should be cleaning, packing for my trip, paying attention to the kids. Instead I find myself killing time, waiting for the day to end. Sorry about the whining, but I'm in this position so often and I don't know how to pull myself out of it. |

I feel like I do this on almost a daily basis right now. I have a seasonal job, and in the summer I only work a day and a half a week. Although I welcome the time off from the busy winter/fall, I feel like there's so much to get done that I'm overwhelmed...then my brain starts going, gets me thinking about waaaay too much, so I find myself just killing time doing the exact things you stated. Not to mention I sleep in waaaaay too late, almost like I'm trying to avoid the day.
I was thinking of making my to do lists smaller. Maybe only giving myself a couple things a day to do, so I still feel productive, but its not over the top. I understand you may not have the time to do things slower, as you said you had to take a day off to get it done. But maybe this could help sometime in the future? I'm hoping it will for me... Oh, and there's no need to apologize for "whining", we're all here to get out what we're feeling...even if it may sound silly, if you need to get it out, just get it out ![]() ![]() |

I do this all the time. The to-do list can become overwhelming even with the simplistic things. I've been better lately. I try to push aside the negative thoughts and just jump into doing something. I usually get caught up in the "planning" stage far too long. Just do it! Is what I tell myself. The more I do that the better I feel.
