Whenever I watch a movie with my mom and my grandma, they always have their laptops open and only half-watch the movie. It shouldn't make me angry because it's whatever they want to do, but their disinterest (especially if they claim it's a movie they want to see) makes watching the movie much less enjoyable for me.

I've told them this. I didn't expect them to do any differently, though. I suppose I just wanted them to know. I think all this may be because I subconsciously blame them for my trouble keeping interest in most things, even things I enjoy.

I mostly just needed some place to rant, currently trying to calm my irrational self.

You want them to pay full attention to the movie you are watching, so you can feel connected to them by sharing the movie together. This is more about the need to share some thing with your relatives rather than them doing the computer.

OOooooh man. My family doesn't do that but I was trying to show my friend my favorite movie once and it just felt like half the time she wasn't watching and was on her phone but I didn't want to be rude and call her out on her behavior and just turned into a sad pile of sad because it was trying to show her a thing that I really loved and it was just super disrespectful.

LOL I know that one too well. I have a friend who always wants to watch a movie with "the gang" so we go there and she has a lot of say and we choose "her" movie. Then the rest of us try to watch it while she leaves after five minutes to go do dishes or talk on the phone. She watch snippets here and there. Maybe 20 minutes of the entire movie. The rest of the time she is just running around.

If she wants to do that, fine, but then I wonder why she wanted to watch it in the first place. I've never seen her sit through a whole movie or even a 20 minute TV show. She is actually much more still when we're just hanging out. Turning on the movie is like her cue to leave.

Since my focus depends on other people's focus in this matter, I have to focus super hard on the movie and also try to focus away from her running around and talking. If everyone watches the movie together I can get into it.

And she is the one pointing out the ADHD in my other friend... and I'm the one diagnosed ADD. And she is the normal one??? Yup, makes so much sense...
