My hair has been thinning at the front, it's noticeable. my hair *seems* to be growing back slowly, or at least the hair fall has drastically reduced since I've been taking Minoxdil and finasteride, and I can't wait for it grow back.. I am NOWHERE CLOSE to being bald.... I'm actually far from it...

BUT

People around me have been really, really mean to me, it's really affecting my confidence, big time,

I just found out from a friend of mine that all the other girls in the class call me 'uncle' and that they make fun of me for looking older than them, If that's not bad enough... well my own friend goes on to say 'Is that really your age 22? are you really as old as we are, don't lie?'

I'm 22 years old, I am 22 years old I repeat. What can I say? I'm heartbroken, I am shattered. I called my mother.... and I CRIED.... my mom said I shouldn't give a damn, and that they're so shallow, that they can't look past your hair loss.

I've never judged anyone in my life, ever. I've always been nice to people, I like people for what they are, not how they look...

and this is what I get in return..... I feel AWFUL. I feel TERRIBLE.

Break off that friendship, and build new ones. Real friends don't go around acting like bullies. Your mother is right, by the way.
Thanks for this!

Don't let them get to you. People can be cruel, even thoughout realizing. And sometime intentional. But there are people who will respect for who you are regardless of balding. Those that can't haven't matured enough yet and some never will. Don't let them strip you of you confidence and look for people who look past your hair to your interests and brains. Best wishes.

Thank you guys. I guess I will always have to deal with inconsiderate, insensitive jerks who make fun of those going through problems. It's not funny being the victim, it hurts like hell, i'm a pretty sensitive person.

The modern technology available to Dermatologists today, you can even get hair transplants. Thus no worry. If you got the money, go for it, and don't feel ashamed. Shame is the issue here any way. Walk Proud, and feel proud that you are taking care of your self and your hair loss.

Who knows maybe the people making fun of you have issues with other things. No one is perfect. Some people look good but are yucky inside. Do your best and see what options are out there for you! Fabulous is a state of mind!!!

I have never had any hair loss issues, but I have been maliciously made fun of for plenty of other things. So I know the feeling....not letting it get to you is much easier said than done though sometimes I don't like the word let because its not as though people willingly open themselves up to being hurt of course I know that is not what is meant by the term. Anyways sorry you have to deal with those insensitive jerks.

Sometimes though, not saying its the case here...but sometimes people might not mean anything mean by their comments and might just be trying to be funny, but the sort of humour where you laugh at each others flaws is more of something between close friends where both parties know its a joke and they aren't actually judging.

That gives me comfort, knowing that hair transplant is always an option, I'm saving up money for now, but I'm still waiting for my propecia and minoxidil to show the results. But knowing that transplant is always an option is comforting.

I know what you mean about close friends, but no matter how close I am to someone, I don't make fun of appearance, because I know what hurts me the most, and I expect it to hurt as much for the other person.

Meh, one of my friends used to call me Phil, as in Phil Collins (you may be too young to know who he is, Google him if in doubt). I don't know why, but this didn't bother me; I even though it was (very) mildly amusing.

I think that the worst thing to overcome out going bald is accepting that it's happening to you. I tried hair loss remedies, which didn't work, and then just thought what the hell. I figured. "I'm losing my hair. I can either be a happy baldie or a sad baldie". So I chose happy and things got easier.

The other thing is, as you mention, the "what people will say". If you get someone make fun of you, just walk up to them and say, "yeah, so my hair is falling out. What's your point?".

One thing I would say about Finasteride and Dutasteride is that they have known side effects. There are reports that they cause erectile dysfunction which is not alleviated even after the man stops taking them. They are also associated with gynomastia (development of man boobs). Personally I'd rather have a head like a bowling ball than either of these problems I'm not saying that any of this will happen to you, but these drugs have been linked with both.
