Hello, tomorrow and wednesday my area will go through what could very well be a very damaging storm and I have had a huge phobia of severe weather, mostly tornadoes since I had a bad experience with it in childhood. Yes, I know that they are something to be afraid of but my fear is worse than average in this case. Since my classes are mostly over and I have no homework to distract me, is there any way I can calm down some so I can make it through the next couple of days with my sanity intact? Thanks

why don't you rent a bunch of movies or plan some other distractions to do during the storm time, have friends over or something so you have something to keep your mind off the storm. take care.

Hi Tprice,
glad you shared your worry so that we can help you to make your way through this.
What I would suggest you is to well prepare yourself mentaly to what's comming and decide that this time you will shift your fear and never come back.

Identify a calm and comfortabe place where you can sit down and relax. Close your eye and make the decision to feel better. Focus your attention on your breading and talk to yourself kindly. This is temporary and you are better than the external circumstances. After 15 minutes, stand up in confidence and do some actions that make feel you succeful (do exercices, make your house in order, read or listen inspiring things). Overload your tought with good stuff so that there will be no place for fear.

Good luck.

You still need to be aware of the weather, in case you need to take cover. In this case, the more you know the better you will feel. You will feel safer if you know what is going on with the weather. Just don't get obsessed with with weather.

Good advice and my thought to add was and have a definite plan. Where to go. What to do and what if anything you need to have with you. Hope all goes well as these storms going through.
