A radio therapist helped me understand what to do with my anger by showing me that I need to hit the correct target and not some innocent by-stander or thing with my angry energy.
He demonstrated how a man has an argument with his boss but doesn't dare turn his anger back on the boss so he goes home filled with angry energy and insults or even hits his wife or kicks the dog, then the wife turns and clobbers or insults one of the kids, then the kid attacks a sibling and the sibling goes and sets fire to the out house, etc. They all are trapped in a cycle of Passing the Buck because they cannot or dare not put their angry energy where it belongs - back on the thing or person that hurt them in the first place. This happened to my older brother and I when our parents would hurt him, then he hurt me and I'd turn around and hurt our little sister! So the one significant thing about Emotions or Feelings is to send them to the CORRECT TARGET and not some easier, safer target than the one who truly deserves your anger, fear, love or whatever you are feeling once you clearly identify what you feel - which is another long subject in itself. ![]() |

Great advice! Alas, we do tend to displace our anger onto safer people/objects, and it would be best for all concerned to address the actual source of our anger.

The worst thing is turning the anger inwards at oneself.
