Can anyone relate to this? I know it's not the biggest deal, but it's kinda annoying as I keep trying to grow it out, but when I get frustrated, I cut a load of it off.
Haha now I gotta go get the bits I couldn't reach cut so it looks neater xD
(Wasn't sure if a trigger to some or not, so put sign to be safe)

Yep! I relate!

My mom used to cut her hair when she was upset, and darned if I don't tend to do the same. I did it for YEARS, then I grew the most beautiful dreadlocks. They were long and thick and amazing. Then I made some very positive, but still stressful, changes in my life (in April) and in May one night I got the scissors out and chopped off my dreads. I still had a good 4" of hair left, but I made a mistake by thinking I knew how to use an electric shaver, which I did not know how to use, and ended up shaving all my hair off, except my bangs. My hair is now 1/2" long. *sigh*

Part of me has terrible regret about cutting off my dreads, part of me likes the fresh start. What I do NOT want to do is get back into the old habit of cutting at my hair whenever I'm stressed. Hair is a big thing, it's a part of our bodies and a huge part of our self-image. When I had my dreads I was happy about being in public, now I feel so ugly I refrain from socializing much at all. I hide in my home.

The odd thing about shaving my head this time was that the very next day I met my sisters (2) and our cousin for dinner & one of my sisters told us she'd just found out that she has terminal cancer. I honestly felt like I had somehow 'felt' her illness, felt the terrible grief, before my sis actually told us, and that that was part of why I shaved off my hair. My sister will be having some chemo with the hope of giving her a bit more time on this earth. Above all else, my sister grieves ending her life without her long, blonde hair.

So....yeah...I definitely relate to your post, WaifLikeLilly.

I dye my hair if I'm stressed /can't sleep. I end up with some interesting shades.

Yes. I cut it all off when I get aggravated and moody. I would just feel like I needed a new look, that if I did, I would feel better about myself.

Yup been there and went to the hairdressers to fix it on a number of occasions.

Could you maybe think about still using the scissors on something else as another form of therapy. Cutting out shapes or pictures from a book can be oddly satisfying.

It sounds like a control issue. ... You become frustrated in life over things you can't control, so you resort to the one thing you know you can: cutting your hair. I hope you find a better solution, since you want to grow your hair out.

Good idea! For me the 're-doing' my hair feels like I'm doing something creative...which is a way I cope with stress. Good idea to do something else creative, rather than chop at the hair.

I have Bipolar and I have many times taking out my frustrations on my hair when in the midst of a episode.. I found a clay based temporary hair color .. Garnier makes it , I picked Purple. Im 48 and a rebel what can I say, lol .

Anyway when I get the itch to go from below shoulder hair to a light pixie cut that I think is going to look as cute on me as Emma Watson or Jennifer Lawrence I give myself a big splash of purple, sometimes a big chunk sometimes just the ends.. it typically has lasted me about 10-14 shampoos, I don't wash my hair daily as its just bad for your hair and it will wash out the color I use to cover my totaly white/grey hair.. To me its enough of a change for me to be able to leave my hair scissors in the drawer far away form my hair.

Thats just your way of dealing with stress! Some people harm themselves! Some people cry! Some people get emotional! Some people get aggressive! In my case, I start a new Tv Show, or just watch a movie!
