I've tried various different online groups, real life things, and I guess I'm just meant to be completely alone. Inevitably that is where I wind up. Alone. So I guess I just should accept that fact and move on from people.

If you don't mind sharing, what were those groups like? Do you feel this way because those groups weren't applying to your interests, were people inconsiderate or did you feel like you were pressured to contribute when you didn't feel comfortable with the environment?

I only ask this because this is something I currently struggle with as well. Some circumstances are different than others and not all social groups are the same. Some can be intimidating while others are very welcoming. Often times it depends on finding the right one, and that can be the hardest part for those who struggle with fitting in.

Judging by your username, it seems you're a hockey fan (a Marc-Andre Fleury reference, I presume). Have you tried joining a community for hockey fans online or met hockey fans in real life? That could be an outlet.

If there hasn't been one made already, maybe we can start a hockey/NHL social group on Psych Central and see how many people we can get involved! That way, hockey fans on these forums will be able to discuss this interest AND be able to talk openly about our struggles.

An idea to consider, at least. Please, though...don't give up. I still believe there are decent people in this world, especially among this community.

People just don't want to talk to me if they don't have to I guess. That seems the only reason I can figure out. The only time anyone talks to me in real life is because they want something from me, need me to do something or just want to use my trusting nature. Maybe I push people away because of how often I've been hurt?

Possible. You need to heal those hurt inside of you. Little by little. That would take time for sure.

I've had times where people have simply walked away from me mid conversation or they start talking to someone else. Sometimes you can only do so much. If they don't want to talk to me that's fine. Sure it hurts during the moment but I'm so used to it by now.

I no longer see it as a negative thing. Not everyone has to like me as I don't have to like everyone. If someone wants to walk away from me mid conversation then good riddance. It opens the doors for someone who might have more in common. I've found a strong friendship this way at work. Talking to people I normally wouldn't.
Thanks for this!
