I consider myself to be very naive. Now I don't mind being naive, but I think it makes others lose their respect for me. How am I naive? Well, I say what I think of without filtering. Usually I don't tell bad things, but rather unnecessary details. The problem is that I usually discover what I said was unnecessary after a while. It's a pattern I do all the time. Anyone has a similar tendency?

Yes, Wandering Soul, I have to be very careful of what I say or I will do exactly that.
Do you have any suggestions on how to control that tendency? |

I think for me it's a problem that I cannot control. Because I know I'm doing it, but still I continue doing it!!

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Do you mean you tend to overshare in inappropriate situations? For example telling people personal details quickly?

Not inappropriate but unnecessary. For example, the other day I had an appointment and something happened that I needed to reschedule. I could've said I just wanted to reschedule, but also I said why I wanted to reschedule!! Why I wanted to reschedule is an unnecessary detail. I'm not sure why I said it. Things like that.

A friend of mine often does something similar, I actually find it quite endearing, it's part of who he is. Often interesting conversations can spring from these 'side tracks'. ![]() That said, I can see when you are having a polite functional conversation such as changing an appointment it would be TMI. I guess if you catch yourself doing it, just quickly apologise and move on. |

You're a man, not a machine! So, you give a little extra detail. Maybe you are opening up a little in hopes of some conversation. Regardless, is that even something to be critical of yourself about?
The only naive part of your thought about that is that you think people even notice or care. ![]()
