I'm referring more to entertainment type communities for fans of certain games, movies, and TV shows. Maybe it's the ones I frequent that have ended up becoming so boring, but I just find that in general, the online world is not that enjoyable any longer.

Personally, I'm not a happy chappy at the moment, so it could be that's the reason why I've now just conjured up my feelings of unrest, to moan about on here. However, that cesspool we call Facebook is steadily replacing forums, which in turn sort of declined the popularity of chat rooms, and real life conversations are now not as common. The latter is kind of worrying. What the hell did people do to get involved socially before the Internet and mobile phones existed in such a major capacity?

Years ago, Resident Evil message boards for example were chock-a-block with new facts. Users who religiously followed this franchise began submitting opinions daily, and quite often, insiders exposed nice wee secrets, so the more decent members would be willing to thank them. Folk that helped out for no financial profit would be credited, and we the fans would discuss the hell out of a debated subject, but have fun doing it. Hence the term 'hot topic' which is rarely used nowadays.

Half the time, I find that despite how good my punctuation is, no one replies to any of my threads in this sad era, unless it's to point out something they would refute as a fact. Many weeks go by now with so few updates. Years ago, it would only feel like a few days or hours would drift by where the forums would be empty. Now that isn't really the case. Other than that, it's now more or less the same old debates over and over again, which makes the boards appear like they are run by total amateurs. I'm surprised people are saying (in 2016) that Jill Valentine has a nice peachy arse or something just as silly, because it's very immature.

Trolls have ruined the fun side of forums for me. There's not really any new members on the forums I visit either, and so I feel like I'm talking to myself most of the time. Even the so-called 'veterans' have occasionally had to confess that people grew up. People may have busy lives now. Games probably don't matter as much to these people any more, so they may have stopped visiting the forums altogether, or just lurk. Like, people may sign up and contribute a few comments here and there, or register an account in order to view a part of a forum that may be invisible to guests. Otherwise, where is the activity?

That in itself may be a sneaky ploy to try to gain more active members, but usually people will just browse for some new information, and not contribute anything at all. I'm also not fond of seeing posts with two word replies, when their avatars and signatures are already the size of Godzilla and King Kong combined. I'm not saying these privileges should be disallowed, but there has to be some rule in place regarding the length of a posting, and overly large signature banners, or flash images should be omitted.

People shouldn't make everything 'too long, didn't read' either. That's kind of annoying. That I get. But to make posts with only short statements like 'laugh out loud' over and over gets rather stupid.

I also think social media is toxic. For example, how many of these apparent "friends" on Twitter, Facebook and all that shite do you actually see in person? It's as I've already said: I see no point in social media as a whole, unless people actually use it to meet others who want to be a real friend, co-worker or romantic interest. I've lost count of how many times I've deleted Facebook accounts because the idiots that go on there dishearten me.

Don't have fb and don't play online games so have no idea. PC is the only forum I belong to. But it was interesting to read.

At least we have YouTube. That way, we get to watch hundreds of music videos, at no cost.

I completely agree. Ever since I gave up social media completely, apart from LinkedIn which I need for work, and this site, which I need to keep me alive, things are so much better. And not having insomnia from late night blue screen messing with my melatonin......

I agree with you 110% Peter. I have been in chatrooms for many years, and forums as well. I used to frequent a Sci-Fi Forum that has been completely dead for years now. I don't even think they have mods anymore, so its troll central. But chatting in general has gone completely downhill. People have absolutely nothing new and exciting to bring to the table, (not that I am the most clever person out there), but PLEASE PLEASE chat to me about something other than sex, your "junk" or my "breasts"

I have become more than sick of it. I think this whole generation is completely stunted. Don't get me wrong, I have had stimulating conversations with some amazing 20 year olds so I don't just think its an "age" thing. I think its a society thing. People have become fast and loose with their fingertips on keyboards that they don't actually think before they type anymore. I yearn for the days of fun intellectual conversation and even some witty banter.

But I totally agree with what you're saying.

Yeah; I think the Internet has its pros and cons, much like life in general. I'm an advocate for people having a 'right to vanish' as well. I'm so against Wikipedia and other places not removing your damn accounts, because you tell them you no longer wish to be there. You don't always know that you cannot delete your posts or membership after you've registered, which can be annoying if you want something removed later on. It's like the sites own everything you add, which I suppose technically they do.

Normally, this is no big deal to most people, because you can just edit out all personal information. Personally, I don't know why websites employ like 3254 admins at any giving time when the majority of them are just nerds that don't do anything that's asked of them, and they are inclined to side with long term members over the new blood, even if the 'veteran' caused the argument. Biased much?

Wikipedia doesn't allow the deletion of accounts because they claim they need to credit the submitted content per the licensing laws, so they hereby need the author's name intact. Pure excuses, I say.

I remember the old YouTube. How it would lag. Now not all videos are in HD. Some people upload them off of old tapes, so the picture and sound may be muffled. That's not necessarily bad. If they want to share something that isn't easy to find, it's okay. It's the thought that counts. But I always try to make playlists with only the best videos around.

Lately, I started to compile lists of Canadian and Australian hits in order of how well they sold or when they charted, year by year. To do this, I used the information from two blogs. If it weren't for somebody else doing all the hard work to make such data comprehensive and easy to read, it would be a nightmare digging around for to get these facts elsewhere. I'm particularly fond of top 10 or top 40 music in all kinds of countries, and we know that Wikipedia is a real mess at times.

I'm not much of a gamer now. I used to play games all the time. Now they make them too hard, so I will start a game, save it, then avoid it for ages if I get stuck. So I went and played Separate Ways with Ada Wong, and liked shooting the heck out of all the scumbags like I did years ago, despite the amount of times I too died. Ha-ha.

The world and its population are in a downward spiral, with world events becoming more identical to those video games people have been playing than they would have liked because now they have to deal with reality with all that throws them - and feel their feelings on top it all.

Nobody is equipped, it's that simple. That's what it happening.

Lol my posts also often get no answer and I really was wondering what's wrong with them? Like they don't trust me or what? Is my world so different that I became an alien? Or maybe they are? No idea what's going on. Or my second favourite are threads where evenone just states something and there's no dialogue, nobody really talks. They just state their ego. Often in such cases they don't even read each other.

No, I don't think they have gone downhill you got a plethora of comments here that is encouraging, right. I guess forums lose their luster after a certain amount time or it could just be you. It is called popularity sometimes it can last forever sometimes it can't. The trends sometimes just wear off, you might be better served to have the question answered by the website administrators etc......How can they keep the sites up running populated thriving it is a good point.
Thanks for this!

I don't think you're an Alien at all. But if you are, we will need ten Prometheus films to find out.

Joking.

@Shaly78 I guess people think the Internet is less boring than others. I'm currently quite entertained by WWE bringing back their brand extension. The only downside here is their flagship programs don't air on their network, so I went with Now TV. And I will enjoy Resident Evil 7: Biohazard early next year. Plus, I've been catching up with Fear the Walking Dead on Amazon in preparation for The Walking Dead returning in October.

I've currently got a cold, which is nippy. Nobody likes catching a cold.
