*** Trigger Warning****

I always wonder why some people are motivated to live their lives, while others are not? I think we all know that we will die eventually, but this same fact triggers two different reactions in people: "so why bother", and "so, let's enjoy and experience life before we die". I'm in the first category, at least so far, but I'm not sure if I can change that, and no wonder why I'm where I am (it's the accumulation of these background thoughts). For those who are in the latter category, what is your thinking exactly that makes you seek joy and makes you want to live? Do you think about this at all?

There is a third response that I imagine drives a lot of creative people: to create something and therefore become immortalized and/or bring joy to others.

Sure. Issac Newton was very difficult to deal with socially, and as far as I know he died having no real friends, but I know he died having many enemies. He was actively hostile towards people. Destroying the reputations of other scientists. Never got married. Died a virgin. However, before the age of 26, he invented calculus and discovered the laws of motion among other things we hear about less often. Obviously, something motivated him to do things and think, although he didn't seem to enjoy life as normal people do (he was very private and lonely, and had two nervous breakdowns). Still, why do different people have different views of life that makes them active in different ways and in different degrees? Why do some people find a purpose, while others don't? Why do some people enjoy life, while others don't?

For me, it's just living. I spent a lot of my life chasing false dreams, career, marriage and it got me nowhere. I live life now for ME, as selfish as it is. I do things to make myself happy, from a simple shower, to buying something for myself just because.

Life is a gift, and I am done wasting it.

Why do you think life is a gift? I would like to know why people have different views of life. For me, life is full of suffering and basically is a big prison with no escape.
