I was recently down with flu. More than the illness,my sadness and anxiety about having it is enormous. This is a pattern in my life because of my narcissistic mother, who did not like it when I became sick and barely cared even though she will put on a show if someone is around.
How can I make myself stronger when illness strikes as it usually will? How do I gather mental strength to deal with illness? Thanks . |

I sure take care of myself but I am very anxious whenever I'm ill. It is the mental strength that I need. My therapist helped me find the reason why i'm so anxious whenever illness strikes but still I am unable to have that mental strength to think that this too shall pass. Wish I was tough enough.

I use aromatherapy oils when I am both physically and emotionally down. Lavender helps to soothe physically and bring down anxiety. I use peppermint for colds/stuffy noses and it is a pick-me-up out of depression. Great too rubbed onto sore backs and joints.
Combine the two together with a citrus like lemon or orange and it is wonderful for allergies, colds, and flu. |

When you say you aren't strong enough, maybe that's like your mom saying you're not healthy enough (for her sake). The proof that you are strong is that you are healthy enough and strong enough to get well again after an illness strikes.

My mom is similar to yours. My siblings too. Feelings of anxiety rose within me. One day I told myself I will overcome this flu, cold etc. Taking time to heal, reading a book or watching tv. Something you enjoy doing that won't be hard on you're recovery or tire you out. It helps ease the anxiety. You will prevail.
