Hi everyone,

I consulted with a Psychologist not too long ago. I was informed by the Psychologist that my 'memory loss' was mostly attributed to attention issues. In other words, I was mostly focused on my anxiety rather than being aware of the events that were occurring around me, which lead to difficulties in recall. With that being said, has anyone else had this experience before as well? How long did it take you to recover? I have experienced this 'absent-mindedness' for around 2 months, and I am finally coming out of it but I have noticed I do make some silly mistakes (they are mainly spelling errors that I would usually never make prior to this anxiety episode).

Thank you for your correspondence. I wish you all the best.
Hugs from:

I can safely say that I experience this as well..to the extent that a half formed thought, or a line of thought just evaporates. I panic more, get my back up and retreat...then I can hopefully regain my train of thought

Well I have this sort of problem. My short-term memory in particular seems to be pretty-much shot. But mine is at least partly due to old age in addition to my various mental health issues. In fact, it would be difficult to say where one stops & the other begins. I strive to practice being mindful & to live in the moment as much as possible. But to some extent I think my memory-related issues are more-or-less permanent.

In my experience stress/anxiety does have an effect on short term/working memory - it also had an effect on my speech, I would get muddled, use the wrong words. It was like being permanently on 'go slow'.

It did get better when the stress was resolved but for me it can come back and is a warning that I need to address stress issues.

It's good you have consulted a professional, memory problems need an eye keeping on them and in some cases it can be due to medical condition, for example b12 deficiency or underactive thyroid, so always good idea to consult a Dr.

I have this problem to an extent when I'm super busy or under anxiety. Things I could recall before short-term or long-term is hard to grasp. Frustrating. Will even lose it in the middle of a thought.
Thanks for this!

I have a brain injury with memory loss....and then too the not retaining....I am not sure there is a lot I can do for me.....I do agree with the other person who mentioned...B12...the sublingual....you need that for your brain function....also I drink a lot of coconut water...it has tremendous amounts of potassium....it is potassium that allows the brain pathways to spark in your brain.....If I am dull minded....or headachy...I can drink coconut water and feel an instant relief....not sure what...yet something moves in my head in ways that make me feel better.....from one moment to the next....
