This is a sincere question. Really. I'm working to recover buried feelings. My therapist asks me what I feel and where I feel it. 99% of the time I feel a tightness in my chest or belly. Occasionally I feel a mild headache.
I'd love some examples of what folks feel, where you feel it in your body, and what it "feels" like. Thanks. |

When I see, hear, or read about people in physical or emotional harms way the frustration and upset is quite painful. I cry even reading these forums.

That's a rather deep question, actually..

Happiness feels like a lightness, a breeze. You take a deep breath and revel in the moment, feeling at peace, taking a snapshot of the moment in your mind to savor.
Sadness feels heavy. Your body aches. Your heart beats slower but stronger. Your hairs stand on end. You release your emotions in tears, feeling like you've fallen into the mash pit of despair.

I honestly don't know. The only emotions that I feel strongly are anger, hatred, and sadness.
Anger makes me feel power. I feel strong, yet voatile. I feel enhanced aggression and increased confidence. I find this feeling addicting. yet destructive if I don't control it properly. When I feel sadness, it is perhaps the worst feeling of them all and the one feeling which I never had to feel again. There is nothing more dehumanizing than feeling so utterly powerless and hopeless that it's a struggle to get out of bed. When I start to feel like this, I force myself to feel as angry as possible. Hatred as well feels good, but only in the short term. It feels good hating all of the abusers, authority figures who make the world difficult for the rest of us, and corruption out there. It feels good to fantasize about killing them all slowly and as painfully as possible. Doing so can corrupt you as well though. These are the only emotions that I really understand. I might have felt happiness a few times in my life at the very most and most of the time I'm numb. Sorry if I can't be any further help. |

I agree with Mickey...that is a deep question and not easily answered since everyone is different.

Emotions? What are these alien things of which you speak? Here in purgatory we don't have such fancy things.

My daughter had this issue a few years back. We got her a book that is used for kids on the autistic spectrum about identifying feelings. Don't have it now as she got mad with it and threw it out. (Hey, a feeling! LOL)
When I'm anxious, I have the feelings you describe. If I'm deeply stressed I'll get a headache. |
