Im freaking out. My psych gave me a prescription for Prozac. I was glad. I need something. I've taken Prozac before. But I took it first time Saturday. Yesterday. and I thought of how being on it before, I experienced a trauma, and what if it brings it up again, trauma thoughts, being on it. Then I started getting trauma thoughts.

So I decided not to take it. But now I'm just incredibly uncomfortable and agitated physically and mentally. So negative too. I want to honor my feelings about how I feel about taking Prozac. But now I have to wait. I could call pdoc's psych nurse tomorrow. No guarantee she will call me back though. T isnt in office till Tuesday. Should I go to the hospital? I really don't want to. But I'm in a really uncomfortable state. I'm not suicidal. But highly uncomfortable.

Should I just take the Prozac and see what happens? I want to feel better. But I have trauma associated w being on it now. What do I do. I don't want to feel worse and I don't know what will happen if I do take Prozac. Please help. I can't believe I'm even writing this. But it's true and real and my situation.

Being uncomfortable usually isn't a reason to go to the hospital. If you really feel that uncomfortable about taking the prozac don't take it and call your doctor tomorrow. Maybe he can write a script for a few benzos to get you through this time. I am sorry you are going through this. Ive been there myself.

All antidepressants take at least 6 weeks to get in the system so it's not going to work straight away. I'm no expert but if it's caused such trauma before, it might be wise to not take it today with a view of getting hold of a mental health professional tomorrow. If you feel you have severe side effects or are feeling out of control, yes go to ER. Hugs

Thanks. Yeah I know, and I don't want to go to the hospital anyway. I will try calling her nurse tomorrow. My psychiatrist is only there Wednesday and Friday. I don't know why I'm so panicked and bothered. I guess I really just thought this would work out and it's not. I'm going to try to go for a walk or something.

Hey Pegasus. It didn't cause trauma. I'm just associating being on it with experiencing the trauma. I don't know if that's weird. But it's in my mind. Maybe I should just take it. I don't know.

No its not weird, so if you take it then you think the trauma thoughts will come up from the association from the past. Its possible those thoughts will come up anyway now that its on your mind. Is there an out of hours service you can ring to ask them? One Prozac in my opinion isn't going to make you feel better right now, you might need some other medication. Use your best coping strategies. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need. Hugs.

Hi Starrysky.

I'm guessing that your uneasiness is a 'Psychosomatic' response to the brandname more than anything.....which of course doesn't make your trepidation any less real.
'Prozac' is an older generation antidepressant, which I believe has been updated in recent times. However, there are many newer generation antidepressants that you may be more at ease taking....and just as effective.
This is most definitely something you will need to discuss with your prescribing Doctor.

No I wasn't. The psych nurse who works for my pdoc never calls back. Since I am desperate to feel better, I just went w the original plan and took the Prozac. So, I'm taking the Prozac. My mom has been very supportive and encouraging though. And I think I will be ok on it.

I do think that it is wrong of this nurse to ignore my calls. I'm going to complain to my therapist tomorrow, and have her talk to her. Will also bring it up to my pdoc when I see her in a month.

It's good you have your mom keeping an eye on you for any reactions. Be sure to tell her if anything feels not right.
