Seriously. I need a job. I need an income to at least pay Feb rent.
I am growing really worried, disillusioned, and depressed. There is the sheer panic. There is also the depression of feeling a complete failure. I have been hot on the trail and pavement looking for work - even minimum wage - since early December when it was confirmed my disability assistance would cease. What a ****** time to be looking. Dozens of applications and resumes handed out and not a single confirmation they were even received. |

I am sorry to hear that. Aren’t you living with your boyfriend in his house? Not saying you shouldn’t contribute to household expenses but he wouldn’t throw you on streets if you can’t cintrubute until you get a job, would he?
If you have a documented disability (even if you aren’t on disability) could you contact disability vocational services (whatever services you have in Canada for people with disabilities). They would be obligated to help you. If they can’t helo you to find employment (although I think they should!maybe you qualify for government provided disability) Are you looking into retail? Where I am at retail hires anyone any time. You just have to breathe to be hired. It’s minimum wage but better than nothing. Don’t need resume. Just walk in and say you need a job. There are ton of retail jobs that don’t require working with people. You could stuck shelves or unpack in the back etc away from crowds |

Thanks for your well thought out reply.
No, my boyfriend wouldn't throw me out on the street but rent, bills, and living expenses would be difficult for him to cover alone. We agreed that I would contribute. But that was based on my having a disability assistance income. You may have read my other threads/posts regarding this. That my decision to move was based on false information a previous social worker provided. It was only after the balls were rolling with no going back that my new social worker informed me I was getting cut off. Yes, you are correct. There is in fact a Mental Health Association and I have forgotten my very own advice - to go down and see if they have a vocational counsellor or at least a job board. Very good advice. Divine1966, et al... I have a bit of positive news in this mess. I had a job interview (big box retail) on Friday which went very very well. They are recommending me to a final interview and have already a position in mind. It is not for sure yet, but I remain confident. However I have a new trigger of Anxiety - returning to work itself after years of not doing so. I have not been referred to a new psychiatrist in this city yet but I do now have a new family doctor. I am thinking I need to talk to someone and he ought to be a good start. |

This thread is taking an upswing turn for the better...
I had a great interview and just moments ago was asked to schedule a second. Some of that worry is slipping away my friends and I can say I am even feeling as though some confidence has been restored. I want to thank each and everyone of you for your kind, supportive, and understanding words and thoughts. I am not over the hump yet but I feel as though I can at least see the top. |

UPDATE: I conducted the second interview this morning. It was very intense - far more than I had anticipated. But I am confident I did well. There are other candidates I found out but during my discussion following about the positions themselves I got the impression I was a serious one. So more waiting.
Important to note I got a grip on my panic before the meeting. Whew! My boyfriend took me and his support helped a great deal. The chap interviewing me was near a half hour late so I had time to calm my breathing and exercise a bit of mindfulness. So now all there is to do is to get through the next week. Again, news will follow. |
