Here I was looking forward to new years with my boyfriend, but it's -17 Not counting the wind chill even church was cancelled this morning. I'm finally warm so we are staying in tonight. Had a nice dinner, bought meat at the local meat market Friday. His dish is down so we are watching videos and basically pigging out today and napping.

Not quite as cold here (currently 28°F) but it's been misting most of the day and people here just don't know how to drive even in good weather... so I am pretty much doing the same. PJ's and TV and video games...

Happy New Year!

9 degrees here in NYC and we're all feeling mighty proud and hardy on account of that. Geez, -17 is inconceivable to me, and I bet 28 in Texas feels at least as cold as 9 does here. As someone who likes to stay inside/do nothing, I'm always glad for weather that makes that more socially acceptable . Keep toasty, y'all...
Thanks for this!

Ya, 28 is pretty miserable here, especially with wetness in the air... dry cold isn't as bad. The weather on my phone says it "feels like" 16°F. For me, once it hits the 20s, it's just too cold to go anywhere. My sis lives in central NY state and she said they were at -10°F actual temp this morning... I'm just like "nope nope nope" down here in TX. I don't think I've ever felt negative anything... and I really don't want to...

Oops, it's 12 degrees in NYC; my mistake. I don't want to misrepresent. That's 3 whole degrees of separation. Dang--when it's this cold we may as well be at an impressive-sounding single-digit-number, the way I root for it to just crack triple digits in the summer when it's a blazing 97 or 98. We may as well enjoy the distinction, ya know?
ChildofChaos, your last post contained the statement "I don't think I've ever felt negative anything..." Let me rip that clean out from its context and wish you just that for 2018!
Thanks for this!

Remember that it all depends on what temperatures you are used to. I definitely get where you're coming from, it was colder than -40F last week here, but some people are used to warmer climates so what may seem warm or "normal" to us may be torture for others.

To the OP, sorry you weren't able to go out but I hope you have a great New Years regardless!

I thought it was obvious I was teasing. It was intended to make others laugh. I didn't realize people were sensitive about not living in a freezing cold climate.

I realise this but it doesn't make it any less aggravating to hear complaints about trivial weather.

The reverse is likely true. When I complain that I am sweltering in 37C I am sure it falls on deaf ears and that more than one set of eyes roll. I honestly have no clue either.
