Saw this on PC today. Thought it was a great, short read. https://pro.psychcentral.com/recover...ts-your-fault/
I have been trying to communicate for forever that triggers aren't just about regular emotions. "What, exactly, are triggers? Triggers are those moments and circumstances in our lives that cause us to experience an emotional response that is not in line with the event that caused it." I also liked this: "Most of us assume that the trigger was caused by the perpetrator – the person who did whatever occurred that caused our negative feelings. The truth is, each one of us has triggers that originate within ourselves. Other people are not responsible for our trigger responses."

good way to put it. I often say everything triggers me. Well, now I suppose I can begin to differentiate between normal emotional responses and "triggered" responses. Thanks!

I think one has to be careful with this article in that if a person is genuinely struggling and tends to "self blame", this article can encourage this "negative self blame" when the individual should most definitely not be encouraged to embrace their self blaming.

It doesn't help when there is such a huge effort in our overall society to find ways to twist anything they can to get as many as possible upset. It's like one constant effort to get as many as possible "triggered".

I think there is a difference between the high level of offensiveness of things in the media or floating around social media and dealing with one-on-one converstaions and relationships and blaming close friends and people you know for triggering you. (The general you, not you.)
