Feeling very sad tonight. Yesterday I gave away one of my fur babies. My H hated her. We had her for over 3&1/2 years. I rescued her off the interstate when she was about 6 months old. Today was the first day without her, but I know she will have a better life. Not only did my H hate her, our other dogs were giving her a ruff time, and has ben for a couple months, and it has been affecting her health. So I know I did what was best for her.

Oh katydid, I know how hard that must have been. In November I had to put my 16 year old cat down. She was attacked quite ferociously at times by one of the other fur babies. She actually lived in the bathroom for awhile because she was so scared. She did get sick from a stress disorder which lead to very invasive treatments by my husband and I. She finally let me know she had had enough. I could not get her to stop vomiting even with the vets help and she went into liver failure. She was an incredibly sweet, soul and would not protect herself from the other cats.
Please know you did absolutely the right thing for her. I know how much it hurts. I am still missing her so much everyday but it gets a little less awful with time. sometimes there are no good solutions. You just have to do the least bad one.

This would be very hard for me, so a heartfelt sentiment to you for your loss.
I'm feeling a similar type of sadness of imagined loss/possible loss. I only just found this part of the message board though after I posted. Anyway, I feel ya. Hugs.

It is hard just knowing your other fur babies are tourting another, and she started to have stomach problems, and I just couldn't stand to see her so miserable. At least I know she will have happiness now, and she loved my H so much, but he hated her.

I'm so sorry. It's so hard to give a fur baby away. They enrich our lives so much!

When I moved to the West Coast, I had to leave my cat behind. It took three months before I can get him back but it was so lonely. But I did, and he gave me another year of companionship before he got stomach cancer. Had to put him down several months ago. Before that, it had been hard finding a space where he truly felt at peace. He at least had three months before he died to relax. Prior to that, he moved into a house with young dog who grew territorial of me and would attack him.

I had gotten another cat for him years ago but unfortunately had to give that cat away. I feel awful about it now. There was no real reason for it. He was beautiful and so small. At least you did the right thing by your cat.

Are you able to stay in touch with the new owner so they could give you updates?

@katy.........SO SORRY!!! My old ferret passed yesterday, but I cannot imagine having to give anyone away. Is it someplace where you can go see her/him? I had to give away some of our parakeets because they just had too many babies. BUT....they went to a couple where the man makes his own cages...and they are indoor/outdoor in the good weather. So, they are living the LIFE!!

We have troubles with a couple of our cats as well, but luckily..we have a large house and they can get away from the "bullies" easily. We have two that we call "The Sisters"...like in the Shawshank Redemption. They gang up together and they are mean. One distracts from the front and the other will swat from behind.

No a can't go to see her, they are 2 hours away, but I do know that she is already being spoiled rotten, and that is what she deserved. I am sad, but it was the best thing for her.

Sorry about your beloved pet. It must be hard haivng to give him away because your husband hated him. I would have a really hard time dealing with that.
