So, for the last 2-3 days I've been feeling like I've been caught in an emotional tidal wave that makes me feel like a moody teenager again... racing thoughts, thoughts of "what if" for my life choices (which arguably haven't sucked), and an overwhelming urge to just run away from everything (job, husband, society).

I'm 29 going on 30 this coming February, and for as long as I can remember I've had times where I've felt like this. I'm currently seeing a therapist to try to figure out if I'm bipolar or not, but the crazy thing is that even though it's overwhelming part of me really appreciates the way my emotions swallow me up because it fuels my creativity (writing, drawing, etc.)

Can anyone relate to this? Having a love/ hate relationship with intense emotions?

I can't relate - not a creative bone in my body. I wish though!

That's actually really interesting. I imagine a lot of creative types are like you...

I think it's ok to love any and all parts of us. Every part of us has helped us (or tried) in some way. It sounds like you just want to have more control over how/when emotions are released. I think you'll find a balance.

There's a positive and negative side to everything.

Sometimes I wonder that myself- how many artists, actors, and musicians go through the same thing? Personally I feel like my intense emotions give me the gift of insight, but left unchecked can reek havic on my personal life when cycling through too many at home or at work...

My dad always used to say I was like a sponge because I'd absorb and hold onto so much stuff emotionally. I don't know how medically true that would be in terms of potentially being bipolar but it is something I also think about.

I think you're right about the insight thing. Like personally, I feel whatever abuse I went through when I was younger, or tough situations I faced, ultimately made me able to be more compassionate to others.

It's definitely part of what makes you "you", and I do think you can see things like this as a gift. It's just learning how to harness it, I think... still working on that myself, lol.

Yep I can relate. When I have periods of intense emotion I go to my keyboard and write songs. It's actually kinda of like therapy and it makes me write better songs too.
