has anyone found a way to deal with people who are litirally obsessed by this corona virus?

A it's going to be the end of the world, or B, it means you have to stop your life and live like zombies

while I can understand that the corona virus is serious, I'm not overly concerned about it- and I think that's fine.

I'm not going to stockpile my home with toilet paper, or refuse to go in to my own garden, or lock myself away- the reality is, that while the corona has had a massive affect on stuff, their's still a lot of people (and a lot of rooteens) that are running as normal.

surely I can't be the only one who is not litirally obsessed by this virus?

I have been called thick, stupid, clueless, all by people who are litirally obsessed with it.

sorry but I'm going to live my life as normal as much as I can. that's how it is

I'm not going to have people tell me that I'm thicjk because I don't understand what corona is

Panic and disruption of daily life can be more harmful than the virus itself.

Sometimes you just have to take a break from current news. There being careful and being paranoid. I understand how you feel.

The hysteria scares me more than the virus itself. I'm scared of how the people will react versus how the virus will affect others. It scares me alot. I shouldn't be scared. But at the same time, how can I not? I feel you...

On the bright side, my parents are getting a puppy tomorrow. At least I get to put all my energy into it.

Life as NORMAL here except for a few things I am involved in are closed including the volunteer work I do.

Living in rural America, life is pretty much based around care for my animals & work around my farm so that hasn't changed & the demands of the farm after winter require full time focus anyway. I actually find it kinda nice not to have the outside things pulling st me this year. Nice.....our county has no reports of the virus so they are on the right track.

People are dying and many, many more will die. And that is tragic. But the other devastating thing that has me so worried is the economy. How will people eat? Pay rent? Do anything? Very, very frightened about the impact of all this on people.

Some good news, I guess you could say, regarding the coronavirus is that China, the place where it apparently all began, has no new cases of infection. Which means hopefully that trend will follow in other countries soon, too. *fingers crossed*

What is helpful to me OP is to remember that different people react and cope in different ways. Some catastrophise and panic and buy toilet paper others minimise and carry on as normal (sometimes maybe unwisely) and some people use dark Humour, myself included in the last one. I work in a supermarket so I have seen it all this week. Managing my own anxiety has been a challenge.

Tolerance of all of this spectrum is the key in what is anything but normal circumstances.

They’re not expecting a vaccine for 18 months. That’s fast....we don’t have a vaccine for HIV and it’s been 30 years. It may blow over eventually but most people will lose someone they love...if we do nothing about it. My state has only 1400 ventilators....odds are one will not be available if it spreads too rapidly. The whole point is to slow the progress so that these ventilators are available for people who need them.

Italy had nearly 500 deaths yesterday, and they are under lockdown.....can you imagine if everyone was out spreading it?

It’s unwise to go hysterical and panic but it’s also unwise to pretend nothing is happening. Limiting social interaction and be less out and about helps to contain the virus. Let’s be reasonable here. There is nothing brave about not taking it seriously

I'm aware of the dangers but yet I don't feel panicked. Everyone reacts differently to situations. I cannot watch the news 24 hours a day because it evokes anxiety. I will watch a short time to keep up with the current findings but then I turn it off. The number of deaths is sad. The economy, loss of jobs is heartbreaking. For myself I'm keeping safe with less to no social interaction. I have enough food to last me and will only head to the store if I really need something. Washing hands frequently too.

I have great concern about this, My husband and I are both high risk, Hes on Oxygen, I have asthma and take a biologic. Last week I was glued to any and all things about this, I was making myself nauseous. I had to Stop, breathe and decided to only check the news twice a day for a few minutes and I visit the CDC web site twice a day.

I worry for our grow kids 750 miles away. I have gotten as prepared as possible. Now I just hope people stay home unless they have to go out for work or food and pray the younger people take this seriously.

I am lucky I own land that I can wander if I want , We have no neighbors.

If anyone wants a laugh check out Tucker Budzyn on YouTube. He is a Dog and hilarious.

The nice thing about c-PTSD is that I am so numb that I am not extremely anxious from this. Stuff just keeps on getting hurled at me and everyone. I’m following orders and being as safe as possible. I’m worried that I’ll get it/my family will get it, there may be deaths. The most upsetting ones to think about are my kids, as we have now learned young people are getting it and doing poorly. I can’t even let my mind go there. I’ll just have to deal with whatever happens. I’m prepared.

I have to say, I knew the markets were too high and would fall. I just didn’t know it would be this virus that would cause it. I wish I was listened to and the investments were sold before it tanked.

The good news is that it is not the end of the world. Many will die, but many more will not. It is not the end of the economy. The government will step in. The markets will eventually rebound.

Interestingly, there’s a lesson to be learned in what we eat. If we keep vegetarian or kosher, this virus wouldn’t have happened.

I am limiting social interaction, which is difficult for me. I am an extrovert, and I live alone. I used to go out every day to be around people. Now that is discouraged and the only one I have is my cat. He's great, but not a substitute for a human being.

I'm just trying to hold onto hope. That's all. I have anxiety already so this doesn't help. We're practically in shut down now where I live, and the uncertainty of the global environment, our economy, our finances and income can be very frightening. I understand the panic mode that people get into. It's anxiety and fear of the unknown, I think.

@downandlonely Re social distancing, which can lead to social isolation...I hear you, its a difficult change and disruption in daily life. I think there are good uses of the internet during this time. A few of the local communities I'm part of have started online conferencing on FB and the Zoom app. Its important to stay connected. For extroverts, It may not be the same, but its something. Call friends, talk to neighbors, go on PC, online, etc. I am glad you have your cat all the same.

I'm in California, we're on lock down and have been for several days. I've lost connection with most of that which is familiar. This is sheer hell; minimizing it is absolutely impossible.
