Letting go is the most painful aspect of healing. You’re holding on desperately to whatever drove you to believe in the goodness of that object or person. At one point that object or that person filled your heart with joy, even though now it’s the only good memory swimming in a sea of heartbreak. You’re afraid to let go and carry on with a missing piece inside, not knowing when or if you’ll fill that void. How will you live with that void in your chest, in your heart? You don’t, and that’s the beauty of it: you find something better, something healthier, something that makes you happier and stronger than when you were still holding onto that crutch. And at that point, you have found healing.
