My anxiety with the health care field is due to insensitive medical people. Rude remarks regarding my trauma. True their position is to treat my physical health. However common courtesy would be nice. You don't need to dive into my trauma or ask questions. Respect is all I need.
Over a week ago I decided to challenge myself and be upfront with my current surgeon. I wrote a letter to his office assistant and him. Described my trauma very briefly, stated a few Doctors made insensitive remarks, it made me feel anxious seeking care, thank you for being courteous and repairing my injury I had a follow up recently, thought the letter has probably been read, and nothing will be mentioned. Surprisingly the surgeon brought it up when he walked in the door. Thank you so much for the lovely letter. I said the one mentioning trauma..he said yes thanks for saying that. It disgusts me people would treat you differently for some reason. The rest of the appointment was normal. He wanted to make sure my questions with recovery were answered etc.. I was surprised he brought it up and glad it turned out okay |

Wow that sounds like a good outcome. By sharing your experience the doctor could treat you in a way that felt right to you. Sounds like you got a good doctor.

I was really surprised he mentioned it because the letter was dropped off a week or more previous to my appointment. When he said thanks for the lovely letter, my assistant showed it to me, I responded "the one mentioning trauma? " Him: Yeah thanks for saying that. Different. It kind of disgusts me people would treat you differently for some reason. When he said Yeah thanks for saying that. Different. It kind of disgusts me people would treat you differently, I thought what does he mean using the word 'Different' between the two sentences?? Maybe it came out awkward, or he thought the letter was different (trauma part of it) because he never received this type of letter before? Sometimes I can ruminate on small silly stuff in conversations. Opinions? Last edited by Christmas cookie; Aug 27, 2020 at 06:06 PM. |

Thanks! After he said thanks for the lovely letter, I was surprised I spoke up and said' 'You mean the one I wrote mentioning the trauma?.. If I had not mentioned the trauma part in person, he probably would not said anything about what I wrote and simply said thank you. That's fine. I challenged myself and wanted to see his reaction, comments in person.
