I missed my shot at fame when i was young and can't release the moment i failed from my mind. It haunts me every night. I think why didn't i just remove the ring? I wanted to, yes it was tight and prince was holding my hand but why didn't i remove it. Why was suddenly so afraid? I really did fail myself. Choose status quo over the possibilities. And i regret it to this day.

Very few people become famous. Most of us don’t. It doesn’t mean we can’t be successful in whatever is that we do.

Dwelling too much on the past can be pretty depressing. I hope this is temporary.
As for me? I'm famous right now! My dog thinks I'm quite the celebrity! It's all relative... |

A lot of famous people are actually unhappy. Fame is often very fleeting.

I can kind of relate.
My sister was in forensics in high school and she was getting national 1st place awards and I think she could have gone into acting if she wanted to. But she chose to become a teacher and have a family. But I often wonder what would have happened if she decided to be an actress. How my life would be different or if it even would.

I prefer to be realistic.
I am an artist, I exhibit in galleries, exhibits and competitions. I sometimes sell. I knew I’d never make a good living out of it. Not realistic. Neither would I want to. I have a career that I love more than anything and I am glad that I have art as my passion too. There is more to life than fame You know how many people paint or sing or play instruments or do whatever else cool? Millions. How many have talents? Millions. How many make a good living doing it? A very few. How many are famous? A very few. I’d never considered that I failed in any shape or form. Not at all. Only famous people don’t fail? How so? I am doing great without being famous because I do what I love. Who cares about famous Realistically what is the chance of you being famous like Prince? Realistically? Let’s be real And if music is your passion, you don’t need to be famous to enjoy it. Why don’t you pursue it? Go sing in a choir, community center, your church, take a class, go sing outside on your porch or in your living room! Live your life pursuing your passion without worries about fame. Live your life in reality. Prince had his life and you have yours. We only have one life. Do your best and enjoy what you have. Heck I am tone deaf. Hahahah |

I've had people tell me i will be famous. I sing, write songs, been in groups and taken classes. I give off a vibe. But i blew my opportunities that was my biggest one.

You think your shot was that one time you met Prince and you were wearing a ring? You can be successful in music and not ever meet Prince. Not sure I get it

@divine1966 has the point. There are so many hard-working, talented people out there. So many of them find great opportunities - still, very few are succesfull in the end. So no, it's not a matter of that one shot you've missed. It doesn't work like that.

Woven galaxy you really helped me. I had a night of gratitude and didn't think about it! It was a miracle. It's always on my mind when i sleep now I'm focussing on what I'm grateful for.

Part of why it's on my mind is I would have married better and wouldn't be divorced as many times as i am. I wouldn't have gone crazy. It's one thing that would have altered the course of my life. I would have broken things off with my first husband who wouldn't have led to my second. Maybe i would have married someone in the industry. It's really about my life not necessarily fame alone.

buddah1too - I am really famous with my dogs. They are so happy when I come home.
Honestly, I am not sure if fame is worth it. Just the latest example I can think of here is the soccer great, Diego Maradona, who died last year. He couldn't go anywhere in peace. He struggled for years with substance abuse issues. Many that knew him said that "being Maradona" was often too much for him. Someone also mentioned Britney Spears who currently doesn't have much control over her own life these days. It seems like you often focus on the past. Maybe a better approach is to see where you can go from here, rather than dwell on things you can't change. |

Aviza are you in therapy? A good therapist can help you with things like negative thinking and challenging those thoughts. Your thoughts and feelings are valid but there are healthy ways to cope and people here can give good advice and support to you a lot, which I am seeing, but if you don't believe it, it won't sink in.

Bring up that you are struggling with regret and feel that you messed up your life and missed on things. That would be a good topic

I think you showed strong, good values when you did not betray your marriage vows to a romantic/sexual relationship with another man (even if it was Prince!).
I enjoyed doing performing arts because I just enjoyed doing it. It was not a desire to be famous motivated. I didn’t have drive and desire enough to seriously pursue it and got married and had kids. So through my life, I only dabbled in my artistic career, having been a student of it from childhood through college, then having a one-year period of local involvement in my 40’s (which we called a mid-life crisis.). But in my performing arts experience (singing live performances, acting, writing theatre and film), there were a few things I performed in that became momentarily, sort of famous. It was an unexpected twist that happened, not at all my own doing or expectation. It was hilarious to me how it happened and what happened, and I enjoyed this fleeting experience very much. It was only a moment and then it was history. That one year felt satisfying to me and I stopped doing performing arts...but I have a bad way of giving up interest in things after doing them. It was totally random that those performances became a moment of ‘fame’ due to someone else’s unexpected actions. I felt I had hit a home run for whatever success I might achieve in the field and left on that high, thinking if i kept at it, things might go on a downward direction and I’d lose that good feeling. It was a quit while you’re ahead kind of feeling. If you love music and what you are doing with it, keep pursuing your talents. Others will enjoy what you do and want to see you do it. ‘Fame’ increases as your audience grows. But, ‘fame’ can also be as a result of a random moment you can’t see coming and you have no control over it, like I experienced. ![]()

Unless prince actually proposed marriage and you said no or proposed you join him on stage to sing and you sad no, there is no way to know how and what could have happened.

I didn't follow my intuition is why it bug me so much. My whole everything said take off the ring but i frooze and couldn't do it. I thought about how happy my parents would be they hated my fiancee, i thought about how i wouldn't have a ride home. At least that was a concern. I thought about how we were living together, my fiancee had my stuff. I wouldn't be able to get it back. Even when he proposed by asking me to wear his ring, not to marry him. I thought I'll just take off the ring later cause i was 19 not ready to get married and i still didn't take off the ring. I really regret that day. Who knows where I'd be now.

Aviza, strictly speaking you don't know what would have happened. You could have gone down that path and then end up talking about your biggest regret now having done so.
Do not confuse what you wanted to have happened what what could have happened. Thanks to entropy, bad events are more likely to occur than good events. |
