I just called my local mhmr. And they did an intake. And then they told me that I have an appointment to get info on me and I have to bring in all my stuff like proof of income (I have none ) proof of residense and my I'd. All that's fine but then she tells me I will be on a 2 year waiting list. What am I supposed to do until then. They gave me their crisis hotline number. I'm just so aggrivated!

Unfortunately, there is very, very little in the way of publicly funded mental health support, at least as far as my experience goes. The only way that I have been able to receive treatment was because my pdoc very kindly only charges me $10 a visit. If he charged his normal fee ($75 per 15 mins) I would never, ever be able to see him.

You could try doing a google search of your area and do something like "psychiatrist your town sliding scale" same with psychologist. Otherwise you are very likely to actually wait the 2 years and then be really disappointed with your care.

If you get really down before then, go to the ER.

Hi, Angie2716!

Very sad, this waiting. In addition to Perpetuallysad's suggestion, here's a recent New York Times article: How to Find Mental Health Care When Money is Tight
by Lesley Alderman.

You also might consider going directly to a Social Security Disability lawyer (they don't get their money unless and until you get yours, and their take is limited by law). That would also involve a wait, but the payoff could be better in access to health care of all types.

I go to the er for my panic attacks but they just send me home. And I have a disability lawyer. Its been almost a year and I'm supposed to be going before a judge. That was almost 6 months ago and he said it would t'e anywhere from 6 to 10 months before I went before a judge
