A while ago I posted about how bad JobCorps is, somebody suggested I send letters to my state reps... After doing so and waiting several weeks...

Finally a response!

Bernie Sanders an independent here in VT sent a letter to me. I didn't actually receive it due to the fact I am stuck here at JobCorps.

It had my name all over it, stating the allegations I put up. So, I suspect one of two outcomes:

Either they try to get me removed from JobCorps so that I can no longer hold people accountable for their actions... or lack thereof...

OR

They actually do something about this shithole they try to pass as a place of learning.

Either way, at least for the meantime... Things seem to be moving in the right direction. For once.
Thanks for this!

First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (part of the Bill of Rights; emphasis mine):
Quote:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Congratulations, Jmall! No matter what comes of this, you've taken your place in a heritage of free citizens who stand against abuse of power. I'm proud of you. I hope you can be proud of yourself. I hope someday in the future you can tell friends and loved ones what you experienced and how you acted to make life better for others who would come after you.

Well. Now JobCorps is trying desperately to find some way to remove me from the program. They did a urine analysis. (Surprisingly it came up negative). They have searched my locker. Which also, came up negative I am assuming... since I don't have anything against the rules.

They tried to intimidate me to retract my statement. Which I am not going to do. They are watching me so incredibly closely that it's disturbing. Waiting for me to slip up. I had to make all kind of statements again. To security at the center... something I did a month and a half ago, but they claim they "lost" it... They are calling me in during my lunch periods to talk to me about the situation, so I no longer get lunch. I was advised to put in writing everything that happens when it happens. I'll be using this thread to do that, two birds with one stone type of thing.
Thanks for this!

Sorry about what appears to be harassment. I wonder if you have any whistleblower protection?

Good luck.

They are breaking the law by taking away your lunch time!! Tell them that! And tell anyone else who will listen. Calling you in on your lunch time is considered "part of working hour time" - legally they can not do that! Not here in ILLINOIS anyway. I'm sure it holds true for all states!

Please keep up posted on how this all turns out. I'm sorry for all that they are putting you through. I worked at place like tht once.

Bashfull - each state has a different definition of even what a lunch period is let alone what one is entitled to etc. In Wisconsin, as long as they pay you for that period, they can pretty much do whatever they want. The only exception to that rule in the state of WI is if you are under the age of 18.

So before you decide to take the offensive, know what your rights are. Most state require employee rights to be posted. If there is a specific break area or right outside the office there should be a big white poster stating your rights, in facts it's probably called "Your rights and responsibilities".

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
