I was put on Dilaudid for pain, while I was in the hospital. It totally screwed me up..

One night.. I went to bed, and I told my step-dad to check outside in the driveway 'cause I had this strong feeling someone was trying to break into our car, plus I saw this blue like, light they had up, I heard music, like rap music and talking and shouting, so he came back in, told me everything is fine... I was weiry, because of the music, etc. So, I guess I then fell asleep, and I woke up to hearing someone is choking and killing someone else outside.. I had my bedroom window open a quarter way... so I thought, "OMG someone has broken into our house and they are just still there!" So then I saw a laser pointer laser, go all around my room, until it hit my body, I kept yelling "PLEASE DONT SHOOT ME... PLEASE... TAKE EVERYTHING, I MEAN EVERYTHING, ID RATHER JUST LAY HERE AND DIE OF HUNGER IF I HAD TO!!! PLEASE." I must of said this, completely hysterical, 20 or more times, yelling it. Because I could see that someone was in the living room walking around. Then I heard this terrible cry of "No.. no..no.. please don't, please, no." It was my mom, I got the notion that she was being raped... so I panicked even more, and then the lasers starterd to show up again, and I turned around to look out the window and a guy with a scream mask then said, "Mmmhmmm..." holding like a white colored pistol.. So then I thought.. I will move around in a circle so they cant get a target on me.. I must of done this for 4 or more hours, non stop, because I didn't wanna get shot..

Next thing I know, my mom opens the door, turns the lights on, says "WHat are you doing?! Whats wrronngg??" I kept saying I dont wanna get shot. I had actually called 911 TWICE for police to come and save me..

I was so.... traumatized in a way... turns out it was ALL hallucinations... I was speechless. I couldn't believe it at first.. but I was like... just speechless wow..

IT was SCARY, that whole hostage situation thing.... I am still scared to go to bed withought a lamp on, BECAUSE of that so real hallucination...

The problem is, I am STILL seeing things, after at the hospital (where I went), they said it is the Dilaudid I was on, that screwed everything up, and that my body is so tiny (I have MD), that the Dilaudid become so potent..

Hallucinations are still happening this day, from about a month ago when it started... But not as intense.. I see bugs, ants, spiders, flies, and my bed is "breathing", things come out of socket, things sway and lengthen and widen..umm... I hear chattering, quiet chatter. Then the horrible part is... I FEEL the hallucinations, like when I am going to the bathroom, the seat will start to rise up and become wavy, and I have to hold on to the wall...

When I was haveing really bad sleep problems, when for several months with almost no sleep, then a couple of weeks with ablolute zero sleep I started having hallucinations.

But mine were of Hellen Hunt so I didn't really mind them so much.

Brandon,
Good Lord. Your story was like a horror film! You could sell that to Steven Spielberg. Honestly. I'll have a nightmare myself after that. That Dilaudid is some wicked stuff for you. Definitely look up side effects to the meds you are prescribed so that you know what to look for before you start taking them. The Dr's are not as concerned with side effects as they are the effectiveness of the drug. Be your own advocate. LOOK THEM ALL UP!!!!!!! I do. So sorry you had to go through that. Hopefully the hallucinations will subside. Also we have to be very careful to remain well hydrated when taking the kinds of meds we are on because dehydration can cause you to become toxic. You need lots of fluids so that your body can metabilize the drugs. My Dr. told me that when I was on Lithium awhile back. Im tiny too, 109lbs so I have to be careful. Let me know if I can ever help. Im a nurse and I have a bounty of resourses including pshch. Dr's coming and going all the time to see my patients. I wish you well.

Well, I'm perplexed because I stopped the Dilaudid a long time ago, about a month and a half... and the hallucinations (less intense though) are still happening.... we are wondering if something is actually messed up inside, like the brain or some part of my body.

Good news!! The hallucinations have been cut, like 10-fold. So now I RARELY see ANY hallucinations anymore, or hear christmas carols (lol no joke), or feel my bed breathing.. or have severe paranoia and delusions anymore. I feel so refreshed and calmer now, that this isn't happening really.. anymore.

Yayy!! lol *claps*

Turns out it was simply the brand of the generic Vicodin I was on for my chronic pain..., which manifested from giving me Dilaudid for pain in the hospital.. Now they have switched me back to Norco, the brand I was on before. Apparently they are not the same formula or "build" as Vicodin..

Oh, the mischief a handful of molecules can cause! I am extremely glad for you, Brandon, that you all got to the source of the hallucinations. I hope they "black box" this in your records and make sure it gets to all your future doctors.
