Dreamland:

Dreamland, dreamland, beautiful as can be,
i know the dreamland is coming to torture me,
take me, give me, everything i desire,
my friend, the dreamland, will through me into the fire,
wanted, granted, drown me in your pool,
i dont believe in nothing real but i believe in you.

I think it's good to use creativity to help you understand your own thoughts. Nice poem, so_punk_rock.

And in reading this thread it's reassuring me that other people use this kind of escapism (thanks kaika for that word!), I guess it's just another way to (not) deal with the emotions, sort of... ignore them and go into another world instead.
Strangely with my fictional characters I make up in my head, there is a lot of self harm, depression etc. Maybe it's a way of understanding the issues without them being attatched to ME. Hmm, I don't know.

I write and make films and a lot of the subject matter is extremely dark. I've said that it's because I like complex characters, challenging stories, and certain genres of film and while that's true, the honest answer is that the people I invent in my head (and yes I obsess over them) are manifestations of my own issues, transformed so I can examine them in a safe way. Through stories and fantasies we understand our reality.

So perhaps to an extent it's a positive thing that we run away with our imaginations. Not for everyone, because like so_punk_rock has said it's inteferring with her actual 'real life', but some escapism in this way is probably beneficial when you have so much in your head, which you've just kind of pointed out lol.
So you write your own films? Very interesting. Do you have a website? Totally understand if you want to keep that seperate from here, but just asking.

i do all types of creative stuff and i like to write like screenplays and novels and stuff like that...anyway, i feel like the characters i create have a part of me in them........besides the fact that they are coming from my own imagination

I feel like some reasons for escapism are if you are extremely lonesome, depressed....your self esteem is dead, pretty much there are extreme circumstances where people need to escape themselves. I think that we all should take some time to think about ourselves a little (although i know that no one wants to) and think about why we need to escape and how can we fix this.

I don't mind sharing it, I just don't want anyone to see it as hijacking someone else's thread to promote a website. lol. That and if I were concerned with keeping this all separate, I wouldn't post my picture.

The site is WAY out of date but it's: lbsproductions.com

I agree. It's essential.
