Alive But Not Living
I used to know joy and peace Calm and happiness A lightness of being I used feel these. All that is gone, Now that depression Rules my nights and days And makes them all the same. Dreariness dwells within There is not even sorrow, Just empty dullness I slough through daily. I paste on a smile Act like I care. I fool those who watch But cannot fool myself.. I’d host a pity party Maybe even cry, But inside is all dead And I haven’t strength to try.

Hi Dalila,
I found that I wasn't actually able to write my way out of depression, but that writing helps us to see how the pattern of depression changes, as we record our mood over time. From that point of view it's well worth it. Also, writing is a practical activity, so just doing it is helpful. Your poem expresses just how depression is for us, I hope one day you will write a poem about the passing of depression, and the return of the calm and happiness! Hope things get easier for you, Cheers, M |
