Here I go, on my way down the slide into the realm of nothingness. Geez, you'd think someone would put a sign out in front saying "caution, bottomless pit". I need rest, I can't achieve it at the shelter where I stay. I sleep next door to the TV room and the damn blaring of that idiot box keeps me awake even with ear plugs.! They don't turn it off till 11:30pm, and we are required to awake by 6:45am and out the door by 9:00am. I try to get to bed by 9:30pm, but it's a futile attempt because I usually can't get to sleep anytime before 12:30am. I am so exhausted. What's that condition where you purposely starve yourself? Add me to the list.

Is there any way you could request a room change or ask to have the television turned way down after a certain time? I used to have a roommate who kept me up 'til all hours of the night and it had a negative effect on my mental health and my grades.

I am sorry to hear you're going downhill. I feel like I am too right now. Hopefully we can pull back up together. <3
Thanks for this!

Hmmm. It's doubtful you're bulimic, Mrhomercat. I understand your problem. My wife runs the TV til the wee hours too. Drives me nuts. It won't kill you, though. It sounds like you're getting a good seven hours sleep a night. It wouldn't be enough for me and it may not be enough for you, but these damn shelters aren't supposed to be comfortable for everyone. They should be, but they're not. Any luck on finding any work? Myself, I'm looking for some part-time work locally in retail sales, in which I haven't the slightest experience. And if I earn more than $20K a year they'll stop my social security. You want crazy? It's crazy. Damn. If only I weren't married. Being responsible for someone else really, really cramps your choices. Is there anyplace other than Detroit that would be better for you, guy? Anyplace where an unemployed drummer could earn a living? The whole feeling about Detroit now is so down (I don't know, I've never been there). Have you tried to get a job outside your regular line of work? Convenience store, retail sales, whatever? No, it won't make you rich, but you might be able to find a better place to flop. Shelters are no fun at all. I wish there was more I could do or say. But for now I'll just have to say, take care, guy.

((((((( Mrhomercat! )))))))

Refreshing sleep is critical. Even in the best environment, poor sleep means poor functioning (or worse). Sleep would be near the top of my priorities.

But...I laugh at myself having said that. Were I in your situation, I'd definitely be sliding down into that realm of nothingness. I'd feel trapped.

You have a hard fight on your hands. "Always take advantage of opportunites to eat, [take care of bodily functions], and sleep."

Unfortunately, I am unable to work. P'doc said we need to get my meds stabilized, and until that can, or maybe never happen, I am fighting concentration and focus issues. I do want to work, I want my self respect back, I'm tired of being a burden to the good people of my county and state.

No, I'm stuck where I'm at. I will see if I can get the volume lowered.
