I am in the final stages of medication changes in my treatment plan from the Amen Clinic. I am being treated for depression, anxiety, and ADHD. I started on Neurontin March 15, 2010, and I am taking 1200 mg per day. I have been off clonazepam for 15 weeks with the help of Neurontin; and the supplements Neuro PS, Brain Vitale, Fish Oil and Restful Sleep. I don't think I would have been able to get off without this help.
I started taking Effexor XR almost 6 weeks ago. I started on 37.5 mg and have been raising the dosage 37.5 mg every ten days. I have been lowering the dosage of Luvox very slowly. I usually have withdrawal symptoms, and side effects from psychiatric drugs so I am taking the advice of my doctor and making these changes more slowly than is generally recommended. I had no side effects strong enough for me to notice from Effexor XR until I reached 150 mg. Then I had headaches and constipation. My doctor has advised me to stay on 150 mg until my body adjusts to the medication and the side effects subside. The last time I was on Effexor, the nausea never went away so I am going to follow his advice. Also, I am not going to lower the dose of Luvox anymore for now. I believe my chances for feeling better are high, but I am anxious to get the dosage of Effexor XR high enough to work on the depression symptoms. If you have had experience with medication sensitivity, please share your story with me. Thanks! Caramel

Hi Caramel,
I really hope the Effexor works well for you. ![]() I know someone who has done well on it, so I hope that for you too! I am sensitive to side effects and have taken a high dose of St. John's Wort for a long time. But like regular antidepressants, it works for some and not for others. I guess the best thing to do is keep trying different meds until you find just the combination for you. ![]() |

I take Effexor 70mg. Actually, I'm on a new generic form, and I'm not having the nausea on this one. No headaches either. It's been great. When I was on the same dose of brand name effexor I felt sick all the time, and the constipation was unbearable. Although the constipation is still there, it's not as bad as before.
I really hope you get the right mix of meds to help you combat your issues. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
