I don't know what is happening. I'm feeling very sad, and I start crying for no reason. I've been taking my meds as prescribed, but something isn't right. I'm also feeling very hopeless and worthless, especially over the last few days. I have had thoughts of suicide, but I don't think I would ever act on them. I'm scared to talk with my physician because he may refer me to the psych ward again. Something I don't want to deal with, also I would lose my job. Is this normal? Has anyone had these same issues? This is new to me, these symptoms that is.

hi chandler welcome to pc!
i find that crying while i'm depressed is a good thing cause it lets out the pressure. but i would encourage you to contact your doc and discuss with him tweaking the meds you take. this often gets me over the hump then i go back to the doseage i'm usually on. or he may add another med. is he a psychiatriist? hope so, as they have more knowledge on meds for our condition.
i don't think you would have to return to the psych ward unless you are suicidal and have a "plan".
as for your feeling worthless and hopeless-depression skews our perception of things. be kinder towards yourself. you're not worthless, the depression is just "talking" to you. and hopeless, the same. these feelings will lift once you are "balanced" out.
so give it time and you might want to google depression and read the symptoms. it may give you insight on what's going on. or go to the top of this page and click on "research".
hope u feel more like yourself soon. it's uncomfortable while we are in an episode but this too will pass. hope you'll contact your doc too.
UNDER "RESOURCES" at psych central

Clinical depression is characterized by the presence of the majority of these symptoms:
  • Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day, as indicated by either subjective report (e.g., feeling sad or empty) or observation made by others (e.g., appears tearful). (In children and adolescents, this may be characterized as an irritable mood.)
  • Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day, nearly every day
  • Significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain (e.g., a change of more than 5% of body weight in a month), or decrease or increase in appetite nearly every day.
  • Insomnia or hypersomnia nearly every day
  • Psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day
  • Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day
  • Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt nearly every day
  • Diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness, nearly every day
  • Recurrent thoughts of death (not just fear of dying), recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide

Yes my doctor is a Pschyciatrist. I will contact him and ask what I should do. I take Paxil 40mg and Doxepin 50mg-100mg... Its very difficult to go home and see my doctor as I'm on the road 300+ days per year. I'm finding that this forum is comforting, knowing that others are out there, with the same problems as me, and I'm not alone.

hey chandler (:
sometimes when you just start taking your meds your moods can go a bit up and down for a while but then they tend to settle. However with some meds, they can actually make you feel worse,in my experience prozac helped me for a while, but after i found once i stopped taking it that i actually started feeling better. if you feel like this may be the case you should bring it up with your T/dr.

Although it has to be said we all cry sometimes for no reason. i went through a period of bursting into tears for no reason, often in front of people. its hard to explain to them that you dont know why your crying .its not nice feeling but hang on in there *hugs*
