Ugh.
Can anyone relate to feeling totally overwhelmed by the amount of housework that needs to get done? ![]()

Most of the time, it just doesn't get done. But, the messiness and neglect haunts me, obsesses me. I look at the things that need putting away, papers to sort, the dust, and think, "Not now. I'll do it later".

Thanks gently1 for the link to flylady. It looks like a great site. I've bookmarked it. I wonder if anyone would be interested in a cleaning/de-cluttering daily check-in. Maybe spend 10 minutes a day doing a neglected task around the home, and get group support.

lavieenrose, I don't think I'm there yet but that is a good idea. ![]() Does anyone struggle with the feelings that if the kitchen floor remains dirty then it says "this or that" about you as a person? I struggle with this one. If I were a "better person" I would be able to clean the whole house tomorrow and also get the four chapters of my textbook read as well as go to the gym too. I get so frustrated with myself that I just don't have the energy I wish I had. Instead of accomplishing these things I may only read a chapter of the book I got about childhoodtrauma. Oddly, this is hard too as I find the book psychologically exhausting. It's like life needs too much from me. ![]()

I totally have no motivation to clean my house whatsoever... especially now that my husband is gone (on his way to Afganistan)...
I mean, I justify it by saying, "I'm the only one here... so why does my house really have to be clean anyway???" It doesn't help my self esteem at all that my mom is a clean/neat freak who cleans her house almost 24/7 to the point where when you walk in the door it is hard to tell if anyone lives there. She is constantly on my case saying that I need to clean my house. The rational side of me knows she is right, but part of me whats to yell at her, "who are you to tell me that I need to clean MY house? It's MY house! LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!"

Same here. Like right now, I should be cleaning my bathroom and the living room. I have ZERO motivation to do so. I like my house clean, and I HATE when it's dirty/messy/cluttered. I can never really relax, because there's always something to do. It's something I'm working on in therapy.
I try to do one room a day, but right now even that's too much. I cleaned the kitchen yesterday and am very proud of that. I do cook most of the time, and I walk the dogs, but that's about it. Oh, and I do the dishes. We have a moderately sized four bedroom home with three bathrooms. There is ALWAYS something to do, my work is NEVER done. ![]() |

I have 3 boys,13,15,& 22, none want to help with housework. so I make it a game for myself. they are capable of helping around the house with everything. they wait for me to make the meals and grocery shop. I've decided to cook when I was done with the chores, so this meant they had to wait for a meal, and they have to clean the dishes. And the new thing is, oh, there's nothing to eat in the house, cuz mom didn't shop. I have allot of chores to do, something has to give, so I hit them in their
stomachs. They are slowly getting the clue. tonight the oldest actually paid for pizza and salad for dinner. Today is Monday, not gonna shop til Thursday. Trust me theirs enough food for atleast a week, they just don't want to have to make it themselves. My boys sit around playing video games all day, I am in no hurry to cater to them. |
